What a Ride - 18 months postop - Car accident, Nutrition, Hernia, Depression
Hello out there,
Wishing all a Happy Holiday Season!
I am coming back to basics today, getting in touch with all WLS folks. Just 18 months ago I had a GRDS by Dr. Keshisian, 05/20/04. After three months and 80 lbs lost I got hit by a big rig and seriously injured, 8/21/04. After the accident my weight loss stopped for three weeks. Around 10/1/04 I developed a stomach abscess that had to be lanced twice and then a HUGE hernia from under my breasts to my pelvis!
Followed by low calcium, low iron, low B12, chronic depression, fatigue, anxiety and a neck surgery to fuse 3 vertebrae from the accident.
I know hernias are fairly common after WLS but I am thinking that getting hit in the rear at 60 mph by a big truck may have caused mine? Any ideas?
I would like to get a hernia(s) repair and tummy tuck at the same time; anyone do this?
Verdonna - Lost a total of 115 lbs
My surgeon routinely does hernia repair and tummy tuck at the same time; he says it's easier to get insurance coverage of the tt if you are fixing a hernia. For a hernia the size you've been dealing with, I can't imagine that a TT would be much harder to recover from.
Sorry to hear you've had such a bumpy ride! I hope things are smooth and easy for you from here on out.
Hugs,
Susan
Same here, The two surgeons I have been to do both as well! I am having a ventra hernia repair, paniculectomy, and a hip redund on the 29th of this month.
One surgeon was going to bring in another surgeon to do the hernia repair. The next surgeon was going to do it himself. So yes it is quite common!
