INPUT PLEASE

Today I was approached by a lady that is part of a support group at the hospital where I had my surgery . It seems that Mr.David Becker .. ( Thank you David ) Gave her my name as an advocate of the surgery and of Obesity Help . Well she wants me to help her put together a forum here to bring to everyone's attention the struggle that people here with insurance are going thru getting approvals from their insurance company . There is a bill in legislation now that is offering provisions for the insurance companies to once again re-consider covering gastric bypass surgery . As we all know insurance companies are really cracking down and dropping this surgery for coverage . Nothing makes me madder ..sadder than to read where someone applied for the surgery , has severe co-morbities and are turned down. Yes, I realize that the insurance companies are being overwhelmed with these request .. but in my eyes.. this surgery is no different than a heart bypass . It is needed .. Obesity more times than most can not be tackled with mere diets . This surgery works and I am living proof of it . We are planning on a web site where one could go to write to your congress person and express how this surgery has changed your life . You will be able to send to them your story .. your life .. I would ask that if you would share it .. to do so .. Did you know that in Virginia - we are ranked # 1 in the growth of Obese persons here > This needs to be addressed . We must help those that can not help themselves .. especially when they have and pay for medical insurance . Would you be willing to write to congress ? Share your story ? Nat I would be happy to help. We really need people who have gone through this surgery, that are off some of their meds, or do not have something wrong anymore because of the surgery. Like high bloodpressure and etc. I am healthier, and so happy I chose this for myself, however it has not helped any medical condition I had, which was only the panic attacks. I was lucky not to have high bloodpressure, or any other problems due to being obese. I was still morbidly obese, and needed to lose the weight so I can live a longer healthier life. I would be glad to write on how much I have lost, and how it has saved my life. I hope those out there that had real bad medical problems before surgery, and have gotten alot better will write too. I think those are the oned that will really make a difference!- Melissa
