bruised tailbone
Has anyone else had this problem??
I first noticed it at 3 months postop. If I sit on anything hard...chair, stool, ect...man oh man...is it hard to stand up!!
When I asked my doctor about it, he just said I didn't have all the extra padding on my but like I use to.
But, I guess I did not explain it correctly to him. I have looked at pictures of your bones...and it is the area where your tailbone is...not your but bones!!
So, when I go back, for my year visit I will have to explain to him what area it is. Sometimes I can't stand the pain. Other times, you feel nothing.
Anyone help?????

Finally! I have been trying to investigate this myself, since I'm experiencing it as well... I fell on my booty when I was 13 years old, and I remember it was very painful and I couldn't walk right for a while there... didn't go to the doctor, though. Anyway, through the years, it has bothered me onlyVERY SELDOM, mainly if I was sitting on a very hard surface.
I have lost weight before (about 50 pounds) and it didn't affect me. However, after surgery... my tailbone is seriously bothering me now. It doesn't have to be a hard surface, basically if I'm sitting anywhere for a while, it hurts! (and then, like you say, sometimes it doesn't...).
I have recently ordered a couple of cushions for my office, the car, and home... I want to sit down without pain

During my fruitless research, all I could find was this question, with no answer:

So... very interesting... it certainly seems to be happening to us post-ops, but nobody knows why!
Oh, and before I leave you, I thought I'd share something I found with you all

Hi, I had this problem before surgery and it is much worse now. They did X-rays of my (spelling) coxic and it showed nothing ...I kept telling him it was my tailbone and they still consider that your back.
They did nothing but tell me to take an Antiflammitory, which we are not suppose to take now.So I just pretty much deal with it.
Sorry I'm not more help.
God Bless,

Jeannie,
I have noticed sitting for long periods of time gets quite painful. The other thing I noticed is that at night, it hurts like crazy to have my knees resting on one another, while sleeping on my side. It must be because there isn't that layer of fat to cushion the bone against bone. I have to ususally put a pillow between them.......pretty strange.

Oh, I definitely have the knee thing going on... And the hip bone hurting when I lie on my side, which is the only way I can sleep... Obviously, the bones are more "out there" now... I've learned to deal with those... the tailbone seems to be a common problem too, I guess... how painfully interesting ;)
Hi Jeannie, I fractured my tailbone after the birth of my second child. I never fell or anything but after the c-section I was complaining about it. I think it may have happened when they moved me and I could not feel anything yet. It never heals. But now that I have lost weight it does not bother me as much. I still cannot do Pilates because those exercises put all the weight on your tailbone. I never met anyone else with this problem. It is good to know I am not alone.
Hugs,
Christine
