What about Protein Bars?

I see a lot of daily food diaries with protein bars as breakfast or snack. What kind of protein bars are they? I looked at some over the weekend and most of them have very high carbs, some high sugar. Can anyone make some good recommendations for protein bars? I'm not into sweet ones as much as maybe granola. Thanks!

I LOVE the power crunch bars that they sell from this website. You have to find ones that you like! Good luck with it! Dee Dee

HI, I have found two that I like and work for me. They are found in the regular Market (box of 6, near fruit snacks, etc) & smaller than most of the individual ones sold, so I can eat the whole thing. Both have 10 grams of protein & about 120-140 calories, & low carbs (but I really don't count carbs) 1) Q Smart Bars -- I like the peanut butter one, there is also a cranberry almond 2) South Beach bars -- I like the Maple, also have Cinnamon Raisin, chocolate & peanut butter, which I haven't tried. Good Luck, Pam rny 5/13/04 268/157 below goal & maintaining

I would have to say that the South Beach Diet Cereal Bars are the best. They have Maple Nut, Cinnamon Raisin, Peanut Butter and Cranberry Almond. I have tried them all. They are kinda like granola. My fav is the Maple Nut and Cinnamon Raisin. The are great. The Peanut Butter is good but seems to be tough sometimes. The Cranberry Almond is okay. I can tolerate it. Good Luck. I have tried soooo many of these and I will stick with the South Beach ones. They are the best. April

Thank you all for all your good suggestions. I haven't seen the South Beach bars around yet, maybe they haven't hit the east coast yet.

I live in SC..they sell them in Walmart by the fruit roll ups and other granola type bars are. They used to be called CarbWell. They kinda have the texture of a rice crispy treat. I am hoping to try the Power Crunch bards like Nat mentioned. I am afraid they will be more expensive then I am willing to spend on a daily basis though. We will see.... Julie S. 265/153.5/135

I have tried many of them but my favorite is the ODYSSEY triple protein bar in caramel nut . Our Walmart had them here and I lucked into them at Walgreens where they had them on clearance one week for .60 a bar.I usually cut mine in half and have one half a day (usually for breakfast) giving me 125 calories, 1 gram sugar, and 9 grams of protein to start the day !! I have also been trying the PURE protein bars ( with all those free coupons floating around ) and the sugar count and calorie count are right. My favorite is the STRAWBERRY which tastes very yummy, and once again, I cut them in half . My breakfast usually consists of 1/2 protein bar a day and then the other half as a after dinner snack. Hope this helps !! Kathy 280/153/160 (surpassed and still going ! YAY!) 5'10"
