I wanted to share with you my latest dental appointment today . I went in for 2 cavities and he asked me was I bulimec ? I told him know he then asked me had I lost weight recently... I said un huh .. 150 pounds . He then began asking me if I threw up a lot and I told him I did in the begining and now it is rare ... I was amazed at how much he knew about gastric bypass and it's affects on our teeth . He was telling his assistant all about the gastric juices and how they change our teeth color over time . And how our teeth can get soft from the acids . Needless to say I am on a program to get my teeth healthy now and am just so amazed. My teeth look better now he polished them. One thing he suggested was to get in my calcuim ... SO do not comprimise your teeth... we need them .. RIGHT !

I don't know if your dentist told you this - mine warned me as a pre-op about calcium being depleted from my teeth and bones if I didn't get in my calcium. YIKES!!!! Scared the bejesus out of me. I know post-ops that didn't follow up with calcium at all or ones that used something else besided calcium-citrate and they wound up with cavities, root canals and extractions. My dentist, my surgeon and my nutritionist all said calcium-citrate is the ONLY way to go. I know other doctors don't worry about the type of calcium. For me, I'm not trusting my teeth and bones to calcium-carbonate (TUMS), etc.
