This is for people who are 5'3" or less! How long did it take you
to lose 100 pounds ? My anniversary is May 11th and I have lost 80
lbs but it has stalled there for the past month. My goal is 135 lbs and
I have 40 more to go to get there. I am not over-eating or
eating the wrong foods etc. My dream was to lose 100 pounds by my
surgery anniversary. Has anyone here who is "vertically challenged"
managed to do that? Do you work full time?(I do) Have you done something
extraordinary? Please help!!!
Thanks,
Tootsie (sitting at 175.5 and fuming....)
Unfortunately ours bodies don't go as fast as we would like sometimes. I am only told to up my protein and water intake when things get slow. Now that Nat mentioned we should be getting in 140g a day....I am surely lacking and that would explain my slow loss lately. I am 5'3 and I started at 265. I joined the 'century club' at 7mo but have only lost 10 more lbs in the last 4mo. since then. I was told that the best weight loss period is the first 6mo and after that we had to step up and work harder at it. I agree....I did not exercise at all until now. I am still not on a regular exercise routine but I am trying. I went to the gym for the first time the other day. I guess we can no longer take for grantid that is it going to 'fall off ' on its own. Although I know I can only speak for myself in that area. SOme of the May Babies have been exercise role models. I do not have a job outside of my home. I am a stay-at-home mom of 3 kiddos. For me I know I have been making 'not so good' food choices on a daily basis for at least one meal and sometimes 2. Or poor snacks here and there. I need to bite the bullet and go buy a tub of my Zero Carb Isopure in creamy vanilla (shich tastes awesome when I make it...so that is not a problem) and make at least 1-25g and hopefully 2 a day. I am just plain ole lazy. Sorry...I wanted to give you a little advise and I ended up giving a testamony on how 'bad' I am...lolol I do wish you lots of luck....HUGS....I wish I could be more of a help.
Take care,
Julie S.

I am 5'3" and have lost 124 pounds. I have 22 pounds to lose for my doctor's goal and 42 pounds to lose for my personal goal. I used to work full time, was made to quit a few weeks ago. I worked with infants and she moved me to the two year old room. I can't pick them up because of back issues, so she told me to deal or leave. I left!! I am not going to do anything to hurt myself. I try hard to follow the rules and eat what I am suppose to. Doesn't always work out that way though. I walk a mile to a mile in a half if the weather is nice. I can't afford to join a gym or the YMCA. I coached cheerleading and we streched there, that was twice a week. Now that is over. LOL I don't do anything different from you. Our bodies are just different. I do know where you are coming from though. It hurts when I see someome else at goal or under goal that had the surgery around the same time or after me. I think you are doing great. You maybe a slower loser and that may be a good thing in a way. I have read from others who lose slower, they don't have all the batwings and hanging tummies as bad as the ones who lose faster.
Best wishes
Toni
I'm 5'1" and went from 257 to 131. I've been retired since six weeks after the surgery which means I have enough time to exercise. I've always been a swimmer and, as a NYer I don't own a car so I do a lot of walking naturally. The weight just kept falling off; I'm not sure how and March-April it stabilized. I actually had to cut out some exercise because I couldn't take in enough calories. I eat reasonably sensibly, drink a lot of water and sf lemmonade and take in lot of sf jello. I'm very diligient about the vitamins and sleep, but I honestly can't give you a reason why it went so well. I swim 1/2 mile at the local Y four or so times a week and do the normal walking that presents itself in my life. My one year anniversary is May 17th. I wish that I could be more helpful, but our bodies are each unique. Good luck.
Hi Tootsie,I'm 5'1 and have lost almost 170 lbs and my surgery was also May 11th... I have been pretty much stuck since Christmas .I have lost a few lbs but not much.I have not been getting all the protein ....I was doing better for awhile then I went down hill . I have started excercising now that the weather has gotten nice.I bought a bike....after 26 yrs.My goal is 135 and I'm stuck at 193 and feel like thats all I'm gonna loose. I used to work 3rd shift and homeschool my son, but in November I had to quit my job ....I was making myself crazy trying to do both .I didn't do anything special...in fact I really haven't excercised until now.I'm hoping that will help....Do you count your calories? If so how many do you get in a day? I have often wondered how everyone could diet so differantly and still loose so much.I think the docs are all so differant in what they tell us to eat. For example my doc did not want me to eat anything but proein for the first six months then you could add some veggies and then after a year some fruit.I haven't been very good at following his rules on that but I'm trying. I don't know how helpfull I've been but you are not alone, just know that.
God Bless You,
Angi

I'm 5"1'. I reached the century mark at the 9 month point. I had surgery 5/10/04.
I started out 235.5 lbs with a BMI around 45. To date I weigh 131 lbs with a BMI of 24.6-8. (BMI under 25 puts me at a normal weight and not overweight).
I too walk, walk, and walk. I walk everywhere. I do own a car, however if I can walk to my destination I will. When I go shopping whether the mall or grocery shopping, I park my car as far away from the entrance as I can. I look for every opportunity to take stairs instead of an elevator.
Eleven moths ago on the day I was released from the hospital. I went home slipped on a pair of terry cloth flip flops and shuffled down around the roads (live in a rural area, no sidewalks). I told myself if I can walk through the pain and recovery of the surgery than as I got better it would never be as bad. I was right. I walk and jog all the time. Don't get me wrong when I first started out, I hurt all over, especially my knees and thighs. My husband would help me put ice packs on for twenty minutes on and 45 minutes off. I have a pair of Layne Giant; I mean Layne Bryant pants size 22 (They used to fit tight). I am now in 1s,2s,3s, and 4s. I actually weigh less and wear a smaller size than my 21 year old daughter. I too am a Sugar Free Jell-O fan. It really kills the sweet tooth craving and you get in liquids. I also take my vitamins and drink soy protein smoothies on a regular basis. Its been a long time since I have been referred to as being truly "petite".

I am 5'3" and I have lost 82 lbs. I am up and down up and down. I had an appointment with PCP today as I am having gallbladder attacks. My PCP says it has to come out so I will see a surgeon tomorrow. I really think this has contributed to my slow down, at least I hope it is and when I get it out things will speed up again. I only need to lose 25 lbs to get to my goal as my wl surgeon never gave me a goal.
Love and Prayers

THANKS to all of you lovely ladies for your thoughts, ideas and
inspiration! It is amazing how different we are, isn't it?
I am hoping that once I get some time away from my job I can
devote a lot more time to walking. I am up at 4:30 in the morning and
go for 12 hours and then I am exhausted. I am not eating
too many calories, but I need more protein, for sure.
Good luck to all of you!
Hugs,
Tootsie

Hey Tootsie, Just to "ditto" what your going through. My anniversery date is May 18 and I have been stalled for almost 3 months. My goal was to loose 100 also and currently stuck at -97lbs.
When talking to my doc, he said that my goal should be only 150 for my height (5'3"). I told him no way. My goal is 130-135.
The thing is, now WE are down to the hard stuff. Just keep walking/excersizing, drinking and eating protiens. You might want to change your excersize up. I do the curves thing 4 days a week and try, try to walk 3 days a week. I really have to work at it.
There is the rare day that i walk and do the curves thing, but it tires me out too much.
House cleaning and yard work is also good exercise!!!!
good luck and keep in touch
mary
