Hello all! Happy New Year! Well as of today I am 8 months post-op. Wow! It feels weird saying that! Seems as though time has gone by so quickly. Well, I am having a slight issue. I have not lost any weight in about 3 or 4 weeks now. That isn't really much time, I know, but I have lost weight consistently EVERY week since I have had my surgery. Well then December 1 my father passed away. I didn't eat for about 4 or 5 days, then started back slowly. My eating has become very irregular. I'm not doing 3 meals like normal, and my water consumption has dropped considerably. I am just back to work today after being gone for a month, so I am hopeful that having my routine back will help immensely. Thanks for listening!! Valena Lap RNY 5/3/2004, -112

Hello! We had surgery the same day and sounds like we are experiencing some of the same issues. First of all, I am very sorry about the passing of your father and I am sure that has everything to do with your "not being on track". Just try to take things one day at a time; it's been so soon since you lost him, you have to give yourself time to get back. Maybe take baby steps by getting the water back up. I'm sure your body is just taking a little break and it will start losing again, when you up your water, and your meals get more consistent. Just remember that you are grieving your loss right now and that if it does take some time - then it does and you are doing exactly what you need to do to get through this difficult time in your life.....(((((((hugs)))))). Hi Valena, Gee, these major life issues really hit hard, don't they. So sorry about your dad. When mine passed away I felt like I had been riding on a motorcycle that I didn't know about -- when it suddenly disappeared, I just went flying through the air. And it wasn't until six months later that I sort of "woke up," even though I had been back to work and back to family life and routines .... I must have been just going through the motions like a zombie. So don't worry if this period finds you on a weight-loss plateau. You've done absolutely fine for 8 whole months now, and it sounds like even when you've been under a lot of stress you didn't revert back to old bad food habits. You just keep taking care of yourself, and taking things one step at a time. You're doing really really well, and you'll get through this tough period. With sympathy, Donna

Valena - Sorry to hear of your loss. It's a huge stresser and impact on your life. You know how to work the plan you have and have done so successfully for 8 months. To have such a big a loss so close to the holidays is a double whammy. Hang in there. Cut yourself some slack, posting here is a good sign you know what you need to do. Getting back to work should help you get back into the routine. Try to focus on one thing to improve on first and then do the others. Maybe work on getting in your water, then eating more regular, then exercise, etc. Don't try and jump back in at once. Best of luck.

hello Vellena, my name is sabrina. This month i too am 8 months postop. congrats on the weight loss. i have gone from 272 to 168. Boy what a time i have had. i also have stopped losing for the past couple of months but i am losing inches. Boy it is soooo nice buying clothes in the normal peoples racks. I love the way people now look at you, and i like looking at myself in clothes. I am sorry for your loss. a parent is so precious. but don't be discouraged at where you are now. don't you see a beautiful person in the mirror? now people see you, and the inside you. I laugh more, i feel more sexy, i want to dance, i want to sing, i want to flirt. my husband of 34 years is so exstatic. i love it when people say your her mother? i thought you were her sister. And now i love the girls hand me downs. For the first time in years i tried on a mini skirt and it looked GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i am 49 years old. how do you look? how do you feel? weight loss takes time. I did not put in on over night and i know i won't lose it overnight. Just being patient and watching the change process no matter how slow is great. every few weeks i can get into something smaller. i was a 24, now i am a 14 and can even get into some 12's. i love life. Good luck to you. if you need someone to listen just drop a line. god bless and thank him every day!
