Thanks for asking. I had the surgery on Monday and the dressing is off now. My arm is still in a sling so it is very hard to type. There was ultimately no choice---the shoulder pain was too intense to live with. It turned out that the damage was more severe then the surgeon expected.
Warning: I was given viocodin since it is a non-asprin, non-steroid pain reliever. It turned out theat viocodin makes most people throw up. THis had been my worst fear. I was not able to keep food down for three days. I then just gave up and decided to live with the pain. I had asked my gastric by-pass surgeon and my orthopod about meds and neither mentioned vicodin as a possible problem. Afterwards, it was decided that I probably should have been given the much less strong, but much more tolerable tylenol with codeine. It was a lesson that you can never ask too many questions. I'll know tomorrow when I see the orthopod what happens next. I needed the surgery; for the most part my needs were meet, but not in the important area of pain control. Next time I'll ask even more questions.
