DEPO-PROVERA

has anyone heard about the effects of this drug as a contraceptive? i heard on the news the other night that it can cause mineral bone loss. leading to osteoporosis. any thoughts would be helpfull.

Jennifer, Here's my 2 cents...I had depo after my first child was born...I took 3 shoots - once every 3 months and from October to June I gained 100 lbs...I contribute a large portion of my weight gain to depo...yes, I do over eat, yes, I am an emotional eater, but for what ever reason...I would gain 20lbs, in the 2 weeks right after I would get a shot...I quit taking depo in June and never gained any more weight...I never lost any more either until I had this surgery. Agian, Just my personal experience, but I wouldn't risk it! Michelle

Jennifer, I went 2 weeks ago to see about swapping from BCP's to the shot. My gyn basically told me no. It can stop/slow down weight loss and the side effects were not ones he wanted with me. So I continue with BCP's. Michele
