slow weight loss? depressed..sigh
Hi all....I had surgery May 5th and was at 293 and now am at 215..I feel like its slowing alot and im not doing right things I should. I walk every single darn day and now this week started aerobics and let me tell ya im sore lol..One hour of pain yet fun lol...I know I need to drink more and write down what I eat but I dont. I am on the go so much but I do best I can about protien and eating right. Today I was kinda stunned..Sometimes I know we can eat more than others but I actually sat down with my daughter at her house and had lunch. She picked up a single cheese from wendys that is 1/4lb do im doin math and im thinking its 4oz..I ate most of the bun but not all and few fries..I normally dont eat this so I was kinda suprised I could eat it just fine. Is my pouch too big? Will I stay at this weight? I know about good choices and have been making them but I am gonna eat a burger once in while. I bust my booty all 7days a week..yes even sunday workin out and walking so I feel I can have a burger but to eat almost whole thing was like ...omg...makes me wanna cry..How much can i lose from here out? I dont even feel like I will meet goal losing one pound in week this past week...All of you seem to be losing about 100lbs by now..sry to whine but im depressed..
Hi Lou,
I was 243 at my surgery May 11, and have "only" lost 63 lb since. For the whole month of October I hovered around 182-185 and couldn't seem to shake it. And I thought my pouch was too big, and that I'd be stuck here forever. But I happened to be out of town for a few days, away from the scale and from worrying about being stuck, and now I've dropped a few pounds.
So my advice is: don't focus on the fear, or on negative thoughts. The weight loss will slow down now -- so what? We're only six months out, which means half-way to the key one-year date. This is a long process, and your body needs to catch up with itself once in a while. Go buy something pretty to wear, look in the mirror and tell yourself what a terrific job you've done so far. Then go out dancing!
Keep your chin up!

Hi Lou,
I had surgery 5/25/04 and have lost about 70lbs right now. You seem to be doing just great. In fact...if your surgeon has a nutritionist you should discuss this in depth with them. I thought I was a slow loser until I had my meeting with the nutritionist last month. She did the math and said I was ahead of where I should be and needed to be eating more to keep from losing it too fast. I know there are some who don't think there is any such thing as losing it too fast...but, I'll trust the person qualified to tell me that. So, I've added more protein and veggies and am happy with where I'm heading. I still go weeks sometimes without losing. I think it's just part of it.
Good Luck,
Christie
I, like you, was worried about my pouch being too big and that I'm not losing fast enough and that I'm just going to be stuck here at my 75lbs lost. BUT - I took a look at what I'm actually eating. I would have considered the amount I eat to be a small snack between the big snacks between the big meals before.
As far as losing too slow... I think my body is just trying to catch up. I've noticed that the pounds may not be flying off right now but I'm toning up. My skin isn't sagging as much as it used to.
I'm taking the steps to try to break my plateau but my body will do it in its own time.
You have already mastered the most important thing: exercise! I understand the frustration with slow weight loss, and you clearly understand that eating burgers regularly would cause you to fail, so I won't lecture you. My pouch is HUGE too-I can eat a large amount of food (depending on the food). I thought you might like a link to the pouch rules, in case you haven't seen them before or in case you needed a refresher. I find that these are really helpful for me.

Try to stay positive and keep from going back to old habits. (that is my biggest problem) I had my surgery May 25th and I am down 54lbs but I only had about 90lbs to lose. From the 20th of June till about the beginning of August, I lost a whopping 5lbs. My body said nooooooooo. Then boom, it started losing again. I am in the same situation again. I have not lost more than 5lbs in almost two months. This might be from a lower activity level due to physical problems but I don't let it get me down. This is a process, I look at it like a trialthalon and I am just getting to the running part. The end, is usually the hardest.
Just remember that everyone is different and your progress may not be the same as someone else's. It really isn't fair to you to compare yourself to others.
Unfortunately, I can eat just about anything I want. I try to avoid junk food but eat a burger whenever I want just w/o most of the bread and no cheese (lactose sensitive) and a lot less of it. I think its more about modification than deprivation. Look at this journey as a life-long learning experience.
If you have concerns, you really should talk to your doc or your nutritionist. They can best tell you if any changes need to be made.
Good Luck and know that there are many people out there cheering you on!
