Oh ok...I was just wondering. I too use Isopure. I usually use about 2oz to one scoop(with all of the other stuff)....I tried 2 scoops with about about 4oz and I didn't like it as much. Plus I usually add yogurt and ice and skim milk so there was too much volume to drink. I drink it my normal way and it yields about 8oz's of liquid. I drink that and i am STUFFED!! Congrats on all of your success. Julie

John, I am not sure what your Dr. and nutritionist has told you so don't take my word for it, but I was told by my Dr and personal trainer(when i actually went to gym) that our bodies can't absorb more than 30 grams of protien at one sitting.(shake) so therefore to spread the shakes out throughout the day. I didn't take there word for it so I did alittle research myself, here on OH boards and other lists..oh and vitalady.com and they all said the same thing. The only exception to the rule is profesional athletes. You might want to check this out for yourself.. I got up early and had my protien shake. A little hungry now, but I will wait a another hour before having another shake. Have a great day! Brenda

Thanks for the info... I have another question now for my 6 month check up. A couple of things don't make sense to me: 1) If beef is about 8g of protein per oz - if someone has a 10 oz steak then 50g of protein is wasted? Or is that just because of our surgeries we can't absorb it now? BTW, I can barely get in 3 oz of beef so I think I am safely under the 30 g limit. 2) Why is ok for athletes to take more than 30 g at a time? I don't think their intestines know they are professional athletes! LOL Seriously, if it was a limit of our body's ability to absorb more than 30 g at once, then why would they do it? Just to be safe, I am going to cut the amount back to 30g at a time until I can check with the ol' doc about it. Thanks again.

John, the 30 grams of protien is only with the protien shakes. EAt all you want with the real food, but with the shakes the added protien scoops are a waste of money...When I was checking into this myself the personal trainer ask me how much protien i was getting in at one time with my shakes. I told her I didnt go over the 30-35 grams/at one sitting, amd what I had learned and she said good. This doesn't reflect the surgery at all, she reenstated that only professional athletes absorb more protien through shakes than a normal person with or without surgery. She was surprised I new this even. I told her I had spent alot of time researching this as I really didnt have the money to throw around. I also learned about this on my yahoogroups lists. (They have a WLS protien list.) Got a wealth of information from that group. I wouldn't cut back if I were you...I think your doing great on protien..much better than I...I would just split it up during the day. Brenda

John, I just went to see what the name of the board is called, in case you are interested in it. It is on yahoogroups.com, then it is called OSSG-Protein I had went on no mail for a while as it is a very heavy board. Everyone that sells protein on the internet is a member of that board it seems, but again the information is invaluble. Brenda

Julie, Isn't our bodies weird...I tell you when i worked and ate breakfast, or ate a snack at 9 or so I was starved before lunch, and starved all day. I just ate and ate and ate..wheras not working(sitting at a desk being bored and munching) has really helped me do better. I spend alot of time online at some cooking site, or frugel site though. I don't get hungry AT ALL. Since we are a one income family now i tend to spend lot's of time on the dollar stretcher sites, frugile, et...I love it! It sounds like we are opposite on the grazing thing. You grazed more at home? Where I grazed more at work. Again my friend who eats 6 small meals a day tells me she is constantly hungry, but when home she forgets to eat, thus her calorie intake is much less those days. Have a great day! Brenda
