I finally got about 58 grams of protein!!! Today is the very first day I have gotten that much protein in. Did terrible on drinking though. Will do better tomorrow. Forgot my water at home so I didn't drink today at work. You know Brenda, you can't handle beef and I can't handle chicken. I love chicken too, it hurts my feelings so bad! I just want a piece of baked chicken!! Toni
Toni, you did great on your protien. I did too! I had two shakes today. Yep beef for me just usually doesn't sit good. When I went to eat tonight..the meatloaf/gravy, it just didnt sit well. It was so heavy. 2 tiny tiny bites and I was misirbel(SP) Had to get up from the table. It was just to darn heavy. But there is this place at the lake that I can eat steak. Medium rare of course, and I was able to eat it a month out of surgery. I have only ate there 3 times though and that was during the summer months. Meatballs w/marinara I can handle a few bites there to. It is the very dence compact beef i can't do, like burgers and such...so weird! Next time I eat chicken I'll eat a piece for you!

brenda sounds like you had fun at your party last night!
Brenda - I am curious about your posts on what you eat... it seems like you skip breakfast A LOT. Was this instructed by your doctor or nutritionist?
The reason I ask, with my doctor's staff I was told explicitly the one meal NOT to skip was breakfast. I never ate breakfast pre-op and, well, kinda *****ed and complained about having to start now. They explained that metabolism is slowed at night when you sleep and I really needed to give it fuel when waking up. They didn't care if it was just a protein drink - but have something. So that's what I do - a protein drink first thing in the AM and I am off to start the day.
Today:
B - protein drink (75 g protein)
S - 6 oz Yogurt
L - 6 oz Lentil Chilli
S - Watermelon
D - 3 oz of Pork Florentine and Brocolli
S - ??? doubtful
Water - about 70 oz
Exercise - Ran/Jogged 2.5 miles.
John, Yes I skip breakfast, but I am trying to do better. I am a stay at home housewife..I don't normally get up till around 8:30-9:00. Normal bedtime for me is 1-1:30 am Anyway, I am not hungry at all. Therefore my breakfaast is usally at lunch, lunch is usually around 3:30 and dinnertime is around 7-8. I no I should be better at this, but at times when I have tried to have a shake right when I get up I get a sick feeling. Before surgery if I ate breakfast at say 7 am (when I worked) I was starved by 9 and then by 11 and so on. So I still eat my three meals a day, they just start later in the day due to my staying up later. Make sence? I had my last shake about 45 min. ago.
I notice you eat 6 small meals a day. I could never do this as it would trigger me to start grazing..(I was a huge GRAZER)I have a friend though who has great success with her weightloss doing the six small meals. We have lost the same amount her doing her way and me doing my way of eating. We both went to the same Dr. Our Dr. said to start off doing meals and snacks, but said to taper off of that to 3 meals/day by 4 months as he said for folks who were grazers before it would trigger that again and by the time we were 1 yr post off would most likely be eating more calories than we should a day. Every Dr. is different though, you no?
Brenda
John-What kind of protein drink are you drinking that has 75g of protein in it?
Brenda-I too am a stay at home mom and until your post I didn't realize why I felt the need to graze more often. I started to think back to the days were I only ate 3x a day and I was fine but when I tried to eat snacks also I would be hungry all day. This didn't start happening until a few weeks ago. Until then I never felt hungry or cravings.
My halloween candy fix is finally over....The day my Aunt flo came the need/craving went away. I was back to be under control yesterday. I DID not like the feeling of being out of control with cravings again. Thankfull it was just hormonal. I DID very bad with eating yesterday though.
B:Carbwell bar
L:3 strips of beef jerky (I think I did have a one piece of candy!)
D: a few of my kids fries from Chick-fil-a and one of their chicken nuggets
I did drink a little water , ice tea and diet coke.
Sto try and redeem the day) a small yogurt and a cheese stick w/water
I will do better today....I guess you can say I fell off the wagon. I did take my vitamin before bedtime last night and my b-12 dot yesterday morning.
I am happy this morning.....I have lost the same few pounds over the last week and was up to 178.5 most of last week and then 179. This morning I was 177...woohoo. Today will be a good day.
Good luck to everyone today (Thurs)

Julie -
I use IsoPure powder. The instructions have 2 scoops in 8 oz of water - but on days that I am going to work out I will use three scoops in 12 oz of water. Each scoop is 25 g of protein so that's 75 g total with no fat and only about 300 cals. So no matter what else I do or don't eat, I am good for the day as far as protein.
I have skimped on protein a few times. I can tell when I skimp because I feel like crap. Muscles are sore, I am tired and I have little energy. I try and gage what I eat based on what my body tells me and the activities I will be doing. I have finally learned the difference between head hunger (eat because I am bored, stressed, etc) vs. my body needed something to keep up with my new activities.
I know men need more protein than women. I don't crave sweets at all but some days I think I would kill for a huge steak. I have eaten steak post-op but I can only manage about 3 oz. When I talked to my nutritionist she said it could be an indication that I needed more protein. Sure enough bumping the protein up seemed to do the trick and as a bonus I have sped up my weightloss.
One thing that helped me was the protein calculator at www.unjury.com
