How far along are you??

With everybody posting all these big weight losses, I need some reassurance that I'm still on track. My surgery was May 10, and I've lost 54 pounds. With 55 left to go, that puts me at about 50% of the way toward my goal. I know everyone is different, but I wonder if we could get a better comparison if we talked about % of goal instead of absolute amount of weight lost. So, how far along are you?????

Donna, You are doing FINE!! Just remember, that we all lose at different rates and we all started in different places... I need to lose over 200 lbs... and have lost 76 lbs. so far... So, I'm only like 35% of the way there... So, pat your self on the back and keep up the great work!! You are doing GREAT!! Aloha, Loree -76

I'm about halfway since my surgery May28. It all depends on where you set my "goal". I think the surgeon was guessing at 150, in which case I'm more than halfway from 245 (now 193). I fantasize about 130-135 to be a nice BMI, so that puts me 58 pounds from "my" goal, down 52 since surgery. While I think that there is no real way to compare ourselves, there has to be SOME standardization with which to work, SOME way to know if we're "on track", so I think the percentage measure is a good way. I don't really care how long it takes me to get there as long as I DO get there. Mostly I just want reassurances that while the loss is slow, that doesn't mean it's going to stop anytime soon. Keep up the great work!! Do you FEEL like you're halfway? I sure don't. I still see myself as the 262 lb woman, and I'm forever surprised by my reflection in doors. When I tell ppl I had surgery now, they are incredulous that I could have ever qualified for it, and I still think of myself as "morbidly obese" even though my BMI has me as "obese". The size 18 jeans that are loose on me are a complete bafflement to me. Hugs, Susan

I had surgery May 25th. I weighed 244.5 and I'm down to 190. I've lost 54.5 lbs. and I'm 52lbs from my personal goal of 138. So, I'm just over 50% of the way there. Oh, and I'm 37 and 5'6". Christie 244.5/190/138

Hi Donna, I had my surgery on the 10th also! I think you are doing great on your wt loss. I have lost 82 lbs. But I started out at 305lbs. It just varies so much. I think the more you weigh post-op,the faster you lose at first. My best friend had her wls done a couple weeks before me and has lost almost 100 lbs. She started out at over 400 lbs. You only have 55 left to go,I have at least another 70-80 left over. Congrats on your wt loss. Keep up the good work.. ~Jeanne

Thanks, all -- you've reinspired me to get back on the blankety-blank treadmill this morning. I had been slacking off since vacation (when I lost 4 lbs without realizing it!) and was just stuck in a rut. Your reassurance really helped. I'll be here for you too if you need a boost! Thanks again, Donna

Hi Donna- I too had surgery on May 10- (seems like ages ago doesn't it?). I have lost 50 to date since surgery and 70 since January. I get discouraged also because I know I am on the slow side. As a previous response stated though, I don't really care how long it takes as long as it does happen eventually. On the bright side, I have had absolutely no complications and actually find it hard to remember I even had sugery at times. Maybe the fact that I feel so normal is hindering my progress, who knows. I do know that I feel great and more confident and sexy every day. My marriage has always been great after 15 years but it is actually even better every day. I am so grateful for this chance and I just hope and prey that I dont blow it. That part is actually still kind of scary but we just take one day at a time- right? Slow and steady is best I keep telling myself. Virginia 308- Jan 2004 288- surgery May 10, 2004 238- 9/8/04 -50 almost 4 month

I agree about looking at the percentage of weight loss vs. the actual pounds. While I have lost lost 95 lbs it's only 42% of my goal. When I look at the pounds I've lost I am truely amazed but the percentage leave me a bit bummed out to be honest. But it's been just 4 months -four months??? God, it seems like yesterday. I recently set a goal weight of 210. While technically that would still put me in the obese category with a BMI of 30.1 - I can live with that. And, if I go lower then that's fine too but I will cross that bridge when I get there.

Well, I had surgery May 12th, and I was approx. 248. I am now 187, which is about 60 pounds loss so far. I thought it was slow, and I really haven't lost anything since beginning of August. I lost 2 pounds about 2 weeks ago, but that was it. Anyway, my personal goal is to be down to 125 lbs so I have at least another 60 pounds to lose, so I am about 50% to goal. I think this is about average, reading all the other posts. Seems like 35-50% right now is about normal. Tricia
