Hair Loss??? How long??

Hi Everyone! First I want to say that I have lost 66 pounds since surgery, my 3 month blood levels are excellent and I'm feeling wonderul! The only thing that I am concerned about is the hair loss. How much is too much? How long does it usually last? Thank goodness I have thick hair so it's not real noticeable yet, but I'm wondering if it will become noticeable? I know some of you have had this start already and wondered if anyone has had it stop yet or slow down. Any info would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!!

Hi...I don't have much info on the hair loss, but wanted to say I had surgery on the 19th of May. I am 5'4" and weighed 319. I am now at 252lbs. We are losing very similar and started off at about the same place. how is everything else going for you? How much exercising are you getting in? I am just curious...it is nice to see other people in similar situations. I feel like I should be losing faster....but I am happy with what I am doing. I can eat and really don't have any sickness or pain. I do sneeze a few times if I am getting full. This totally amuzes me ! I have a built in sensor that finally tells me to stop at my full point. I am finally learning to quit before I even start sneezing. It is kind of a game now. Anyway, I would love to hear from you and hear more of how you are doing. Take Care, Tammy

I know what you mean about feeling like you should be losing faster. I complained to my doctor last week at my 3 month check and he pulled out his calculator and told me I'm actually ahead of schedule. When I check the forums I find I'm about the same as everyone else so I guess I should just quit worrying about it. The important thing is I've lost almost 80# and still losing! I am losing what seems like a hairbrush full daily. My doctor said that it is kinda like what happens about 3-4 months after having a baby. I got quite think then and what grew back was grey. I am to young for nmore grey so, I guess I will be buying a bottle of color sometime soon. I just did not want that to help more fall out. I hear the more protien you get in the less hair you lose. My hair seemed to be coming out slowly at first but since I hit the 3 month mark last week, it is coming out in torents...I wi**** would just stop, but it is just like after I had my son...wads of the stuff in the shower just to keep it from going down the drain...my husband hates it (I usually let it accumilate a couple of days before flushing it-bad I know) being everywhere...it's like we have a shedding cat in the house...so if your feeling down think of me...I'm a slow looser with no hair...LOL...oh, if we can't laugh at ourselves who can we laugh at right?!? I know what you mean since my 3rd month my hair had been falling out everywhere. I look down its on my shirt. In the shower its in my hands and at my feet. And when I bru**** it fills my brush. I have very thick hair. But I only have about 1/2 that amount now and it has only been 1 month. Carmalla H.

I had my surgery on May 19th and I am down 65 pounds.. but I am experiencing the same thing.. I'm losing it by the hand fulls... I am getting more then the recommended amount of protein.. so I have no clue whats going on. I tried Vitatress by Nexxus and noticed no differance... My husband was questioning why I even got a haircut because at this rate I'll be bald soon anyway! lol! Aimee -65 pounds forever!

Hi, Am looking for answers also on how long the hair loss will last, when new growth will come in, and if I need to start thinking about a wig or a scarf soon! I also am losing lots of hair for the last week and am afraid to comb or brush!! ( Of course, I am still brushing) Hope some of the folks who have gone through this will give us advice on what we can expect. Hi Laura... I'm hearin' ya girls! Just about two weeks ago -- BOOM! Started coming out by the handfuls. There was a post a few days ago, and a lot of people are taking the Biotin and swearing by it, so I picked some up this week and have been taking it for about 4 days. We'll see. In the meantime I had my stylist cut some long bangs and I use a lot of Kiehl's hair gel up on top in what roots I have left! Bumble and Bumble is good too. I have incredibly thick hair and for the first time ever in my life you can see my scalp through my hair up in the front. Cutting the long bangs really helped -- I'm glad bangs are in right now! LOL From what I've read people say you just need to give it time and it will start growing back in. I'm just using little tricks like the bangs plus little barrettes or springs to keep it kind of fluffed up. I'm hoping the Biotin helps the re-growth. Who knows? I'm losing my hair and my butt. I'm OK with that. Marcia

Hair loss. I have been doing everything possible since day 1 and nothing seems to help. I am down about 80 lbs. and have been taking since day 1 flaxseed oil pills, biotin 2500 from GNC, zinc, proteins. I took birth control pills and mixed in with my shampoo. I am on Nioxin. Nothing seems to help me. My hair still keeps coming out. I am going to start praying next that I do not lose any more hair - I will pray for all May 2004 surgery board members also. I just do not know what else to do. I have kind of long black hair and it took so long to grow I really do not want to cut it!!
