The weight loss has slowed down

How is everyone doing? I had surgery 5/19/04 - starting weight 275lbs. and as of this morning I weigh 217. I am feeling great and have so much more confidence....but the weight loss has slowed down so much. Although I have lost 58lbs...It has been very slow..didn't even lose any last week and seems to be slow compared to everyone else. A little discourgad and just wish I had a smaller pouch - I can eat about a 1 1/2 cups of food feeling full at all - and, unfortunately, can eat just about anything - except sugar. So crackers and chips are very tempting. Trying so hard to keep focused. Any imput would be great. THANKS!!

Hey sweetie, it is going to slow. The closer we get to normal weights, it will slow even more. You can try more protein, more water, and more exercise or change your exercise routine to try and jump start it again. Best thing is to stay away from the scale. I know this is all hard, and no walk in the park. Stay focused! measure your food, and stop when you know it is too much. 58lbs is great, and you are right inline with everything. Keep up the good work!!! - Melissa

Thanks you so much. I appreciate the feedback. I was just a little down cause I was hoping to be under the 200's by now...but thats o.k....I am still ALOT better off then I was before...and will just have to be more patient....just thought that the honeymoon period would be a little easier for the weight to come off...oh well...again..thanks!

Wait till you see yourself next year sweetie!! You will be like wow I got all this weight off in such little time. I know as we are going through it, it seems to be crawling, then when you look back a year, it is like whoa, look at all the weight I have dropped!! You are doing great sweetie. Keep it up- Melissa

Hey Stacey, I just posted after you. I feel the same way. You have done much better than me. I have lost 57 but I had surgery a couple of weeks before you. I think I can eat a little less than you but, I have been bad. I love chips and crackers and just about anything else. I really have no problems eating just about everything except desserts. I sometimes think because we are kind of considered light weights going into surgery our surgeons don't cut down on the roux limb as far making it a little harder to loose the weight. I don't know just thinking out loud. I do know the larger you are the farther the roux limb is cut down into your intestines, for bypassing. Oh Well! We will just have to keep working on it. Such an amazing amount of weight you have lost already!! I can't lift 58 lbs without a lot of huffing, puffing, and grunting. My pouch seems big to me, too. I can eat way more than I feel I "should", but I've been doing pretty well having some self-control, and maybe the surgery did do that for me. Keep in mind that this is just three months. It would HAVE to slow down some, or we would keep losing past goal and into emaciation. If the losing continues until the 18th month or beyond, then we have 15 months of more losing left to do. Five pounds a month oughtta do it. But then, I WANT IT NOW!!! I had it all planned out where I'd be 180 by now and 130 by Xmas and and and. Gotta love the pre-op mind. I'm just so incredibly thankful I feel so good. If I can keep losing a pound a week for the next year, I'll be thrilled. Remind me I said this next time I complain of being a slow loser. Hugs, Susan

Stacey, You are doing awesome. A lot of us that started out at a lower weight lose at a little slower pace...but yes some fly by. We will all get there we just have to be a little more patient at times I guess. I am a few weeks ahead of you and I am only at -66lbs. That is only because I have lost 10.5lbs in the last 2 weeks. I too can eat chips and crackers way to easily. Two weeks ago I started getting back on the ball with very little carbs and drinking at least one small protein shake and 2 carbwell cereal bars a day.....and WALA....I jump started my weight loss again...I was losing 1lb a day again...too exciting. I suppose that means that we really need to try to pay attention to those carbs and add more protein ..Maybe it will work for you too! I am by far an expert.....but since i was having the same problem 2 weeks ago...I just thought I would share. Good luck and let me know how it goes the next few weeks. Julie 265/199/130 -66lbs

Hi! I know exactly what you mean. I started at 256, and I have only lost 57 pounds. and for the last 6 weeks or so, I've only lost 4.5. I've been stuck at 199 forever and I am getting so tired of it. I have tried cutting back on the carbs, upping my protein, upping my water, working out harder, working out differently, eating at different times - everything! And you know what? I'm still at 199. I feel like I can eat more that I "should" be able to too. Most of the time, I am successful at stopping when I know that I "should", but sometimes I keep going. Any way, just wanted to let you know that you are not alone. You are probably on a small stall, which will pick up when your body is ready...and that's what I'm trying to tell myself as well. Patience sucks! I want it and I want it now dangit!
