As I was doing the weekly wash, I started pulling things out of my closet that were just to big now. I have three more bags to add to the last two I got rid of before surgery. I was happy but I am starting to get nervous that come another couple of weeks I wont have anything that fits. How are you all handling giving up the security of the larger size clothes and where are you getting your smaller sizes? hand-me downs or new clothes? TIA! -Gerriann 3 months post op 75+ pounds gone forever!

Second hand shops are my new best friend. I have found 6 in Dayton, 3 that will take clothes. Usually, they will let you take in 10 -15 items at a time. Most are no longer taking summer clothes, but are preparing to take winter clothes. I have been dividing clothes into 3 piles. One to throw away, one to give away, and one to take to a consignment store. When I make purchases at the consignment stores, I try to buy materials that are stretchy. That way, I can typically wear them while I am in 2 different sizes. Recently I bought a knit red skirt (size 22). I wore it while I was a 24 and am still wearing it as I move into size 20. (I started at a size 30) So far, I have spent about $30 in the consignment shops and expect that is about what I will make from the clothes that I have taken in. Hope this helps, Good luck! Deb

I have done the same thing yest. Went shopping and tried on new sizes, then came home and went through the closet and now have 3 boxes to give to Goodwill or the exchange at the support group. : It does feel good.

I have a couple of friends who had their WLS over a year ago. They are giving me things, but so far most of it is too small. I've been hitting the clearance racks and so far have gotten some great deals at prices that don't make me feel guilty for wearing the stuff for a short time. ($2 for a pair of shorts as an example). I still haven't done anything with my uniform pants.... they are very loose, but the elastic waist still keeps them up. I plan to start having them altered when they no longer stay up. That way, I can put off buying uniform pants for a while longer. I've already had to move down several sizes in the tops because they we uncomfortably large. I've lost most of my weight from the waist up. I'll hit consignment stores, the Salvation Army and Goodwill when I'm no longer in plus sizes. They just don't have much in plus size clothes around here. Happy shopping!!

I divide things into two groups - Trash and Clothing Exchange. The trash ones are worn, torn or stained - stuff I wouldn't be comfortable giving to anyone. Otherwise I have posted all my other stuff on the Clothing Exchange here on ObesityHelp.com. People have been great - mail or send via PayPal for the shipping costs. They get some stuff to wear and I clean out my closet!

Me too! I went to visit my sister and went to the Goodwill store there. I got a lot of things for a small amount of money and that way I'm not out too much when these don't fit anymore. I plan on listing some more things on the clothing exchange but in the meantime I have a LOT of Fall and Winter clothing in sizes 22/24 so if anyone needs any I'll be glad to send it to you just pay for shipping. Also, if anyone has anything in size 16 I could use it! Email me if you would like some of my clothing. Melissa -55 lbs! Woohoo!

I must say, I am quite lucky. I have rubbermaid buckets and buckets of smaller clothes. I went through them and put them all in size catagories. I have clothes to go all the way down to a size 14, after that, time for new clothes. I am hoping that my look isn't too outdated, lol. I just love these clothes, and some never got to wear cuz I blew up so fast. I have been giving all my too big clothes to goodwill, or helping hand.- Melissa

Hiya Gerriann and congratulations on your success!!! Sounds like you're doing a fantastic job! I recently discovered the beauty of Goodwill. I'm almost 32 and had never been there before, until 2 weeks ago. I'm down about 40 lbs and gone from size 18 to 14. Im in the medical field and have worn scrubs for years. I started a new job this past Monday that requires dressy/casual dress clothes. So off to Goodwill I went. I got 5 pairs of slacks and 6 tops, 2 items of clothing and a pair of shoes for my daughter, and the total was $32. I got name brand items like Liz Claiborne, Dockers, Dress Barn, etc. They have great buys there. This will be my new home until I reach goal. I highly recommend it. God bless! Melanie
