Have you seen Dr. since you left Hospital?
OKay, I have this burning question. How many of you have seen your doctor since you had surgery? Is it a well know practice in the bartric field to turn your patients over to a PA after surgery? I'm feeling a little abandon by my surgery. This guy made the big bucks and now he letting a PA care over me for the next five years of my life. How many of you were told that the doctor would not be seeing after surgery and that your patient care would be handled by a PA?
Thanks for letting me vent.

I have seen my surgeon once and the PA once since surgery. The doctor does see patients but usually if they are having complications. The PA see the ones that are not having problems.
FYI - my first visit I noticed a lump on my hip. She wanted the doctor to look at it on the second visit. It was nothing - a fatty deposit that I must have had for years and the initial weight loss just made it sort of pop up and be more noticeable. Sorry if that's TMI.
The GREAT thing that I really LOVE about my PA is she had the an Open RYN surgery from the same doctor. She knows what we are going through and is very good medically.
I was told up front about the role the PA had. Personally, I don't have any problems with seeing a PA for "routine" visits. The Surgeons main job is to do surgery and mine is very good. I know if I NEED to see him - he is there.
Sorry not all practices are like this one.
Hang in there.
When I went in 10 days after surgery to get my staples out I saw my surgeon, but my next appointment is the 24th of this month and I know for a fact he has surgeries that day. I have no idea who I will be seeing, but I too feel that he was the one who did the surgery, got paid damn good money for it and I want to see HIM, not someone else in the office. I don't think it is right that they charge me God knows how much for an office visit if I am not even seeing the doctor! Thanks for letting me vent my two cents too!

I have been back to my surgeon for checkups and followups atleast 4 times since my surgery. every time i have went he has been there. Can i ask what a PA is? now while i was in the hospital i only seen my doctor 1 time in 4 days and that was to pull out my nasal tube. a nurse pulled out my respirator. now i was pretty knocked out the first 2 days so he very well could have been there. the time i was awake other than the one time seeing him he had someside kick of his that I DID NOT LIKEchecking on me! He was a JERK.
hi there, i have seen my doctor 3 times so far. he came to see me in the hospital twice a day, and once at 1AM when i needed a unit of blood. PA's are people who go to school. they learn alot and are supervised by the MD. they are able to write prescriptions and do some procedures. i'm not sure how long they go to school. unfortunately, you still have to pay the same price that you pay when you see the doctor (because the doctor supervises the PA) Alot of doctors are starting to use PA and NP's (nurse practiciners) they are RN's with at least a BSN who go back to school. when that is completely, they are kinda of like a PA. they can write prescriptions and do some prodecures. Alot of PA's assist the doctors in surgery, cath labs, in radiology and varies other units or procedures. if you have anymore questions just email me. have a good one. jennifer from Akron, Ohio 5/04/04
I see my doctor personally (my next appt. is Monday). My doctor also doesn't have a PA, but I'm starting to wonder if he should. He & his partner both see their patients personally, but they're so busy, if they get even a little behind you may not see them for up to 2 hours or more after your original appt. time.
