Hi there - I am post op 10 weeks (wls on 5/13/04). I had my surgery the same day as my son who is 21 yrs old - I am 49. I have lost 51 lbs.. and he has lost 62 lbs. Although we are happy with the weight loss - we have not lost one pound in the past 3-4 weeks. We are sticking to our diet and implementing small bits of protein in the form of meats. Watching carbs and exercizing. Does anyone else have this problem? I am so afraid I am going to stop losing. After 8 weeks I was supposed to start on more solid foods which I have done according to doctors' orders. I also found that after 8 weeks the soft/liquids did not fill me up so great. I have three small meals a day usually 2 oz. meat or cheeze. If I do not eat a small meal at breakfast I do have a lo carb protein shake. Any advise or does anyone else have this problem?
must be something about the 10 th week!!! i had surgery on 5/5 and have not lost anything since the 6th of this month. i think however my body is trying to adjust to the weight loss. kinda adapting to not having to work so hard. it will pass soon. the weight will start falling again just give your body adjustment time.

I think it's normal to get stuck. One thing for sure that will help is increasing your exercise and water intake. From my experience and reading that of other it works.
Now if you're the type who exercises A LOT and are stuck - one thing to try is taking a day or two off. Sometimes people get stuck because they are working out too much for the food intake. My dietician said it is like the body is protecting itself from starvation (the high exercise and low calories mimick starvation).
I started weight training about 9 weeks after surgery. Very light weights as to not get a hernia - and it has really to pay off. I feel can muscles where is was just flab before. And it had really seemed to boost my energy as well.
The only downside is I get hungry on the days I do weight training. An extra protein shake seems to do the trick quelling those hunger pangs. A trainer at the gym said the hunger is most likely do to the need for protein.
Hi Lisa,
Congratulations to you and your son for your weight loss so far!
I know it gets frustrating when you think your doing everything correctly and the scale doesn't move.
I read your profile, however, you don't mention the type of protein shakes your drinking. The reason I ask is that I was drinking the Slim Fast Lo Carb shakes and my surgeon said NO MORE! He said they have too much fat. He told me the protein to fat ratio should be 4 to 1.
In other words, for every 4gms of protein should only have 1gm of fat. He said if you go over that ratio, you will not loose and eventually gain.
That's why I wasn't loosing any more weight. When I switched to Unjury, which has no fat, I started loosing again.
Good luck!
