Grocery Shopping
Well....I have posted to the fact that I live alone and I am not a cooker but I know that I have to eat. So I went shopping for a few items that I can throw in the oven and call it a meal. What I need to know is if I can keep these items on my list or scrap them for something else.
Chicken Fries (breaded chicken breast pieces)-baked
Fish Bites (sorta like fish sticks but just little nuggets)-baked
Shrimp (can grill on the george foreman for a salad)
Catfish Fillets (can bake in the oven)
Shrimp Egg Rolls (something quick and easy)-baked
Lean ground beef (tacos, quesidillas, maybe even a hamburger)
chicken- baked
Total fat for the chicken fries is 15g and for the fish bites are 11g...the egg rolls are only 5g.....so am I in a good range.....the calories are pretty low to me between 150 and 260 per serving which I know will not put me over my 1000 calorie intake per day because I only consume these items once a day, maybe twice.
now what I realize I forgot was vegetables. I only like green beans and broccoli....I think I am gonna be deficient in this area.
I don't mind being corrected so if you have suggestions throw them at me. I also have been eating at a lot of fast food places, 1 soft tacos from taco bell, 3 hot wings from KFC, Chicken wraps from Sonic (not the whole thing, at least 3 bites), burgers without the bun, meals from Lubys.
Help is always appreciated.....I want to be successful at this thing and if I am moving in the wrong direction then I want to know.
Hiya! I thought i'd suggest avoiding the breaded items. I recently signed up on www.fitday.com and was shocked out of my seat when I entered some breaded popcorn shrimp I had eaten. The calories were way up there, like 500's and I only ate a few. I dont care for the taste of shrimp unless its breaded. My followup with my surgeon was last Thursday and he confirmed that breaded items should be left out. It really does add on the calories. I'm restricted to 600 calories or less a day. I dont eat bread of any kind. I, too, dont like to cook and we eat out alot. I try to go places that I know can accomodate my diet. We go to Shoney's for the buffet, they have good choices and its pretty reasonable. Grilled chicken, cod, or turkey are my main selections. I do eat broccoli, squash, turnip greens, pinto beans. Its difficult to find foods that are low in calories, fat and carbs. I hope this helps. God bless!

If you like seafood, go to the frozen seafood cooler. I buy precooked boiled shrimp that are frozen as well as individually frozen fish fillets. I just thaw out what I want or cook one fish fillet at a time. (I bake the fish with lemon juice, salt, pepper and paprika). Both are a good source of protein.
I also get some of the small lean cuisine dinners. I pay attention to the protein count on the label and avoid the ones with pasta or just don't eat the pasta and rice. (it feels like a lump of lead in my belly).
