Hello all: I need advice. My surgery was 5/19 and I've only lost about 30 pounds. Most people are at at leat 40-50 lbs lost after 2 months. Does excersise play a vital role in how quickly you loose the weight? Should I beef up my excersise routine? I walk and try to get to Curves at least 2 or 3 times a week but I haven't been as faithful as I should. Also I don't seem to eat that much, lately I've been eating more and trying to maximize my protein intake but I've still seen no results. I've been at 250 for the last 2 1/2 weeks. Don't get me wrong, I'm still happy that I'm losing weight... but I just wish there was a way to get past this plateau! I do thank God that I haven't suffered thru any bouts of dumping! Plus it makes me a little nervous because I can tolerate many types of food... and even a little sugar... which is a definate no no.

Tisha - Exercise and water are definately keys to your success. Walking at least 1 mile a day is a minimum you should manage. Even if it's just your normal walking around. Try a pedometer to measure how much you walk. Curves is a great idea - but only if you go an do it. Start being more faithful. I have read that curves is only 1/2 or so. I don't know for sure because I am a man and we are not allowed. Walk more. Drink more water. That would be my best advice. Good Luck!

Hiya Tisha! I'm 8 wks post and have lost about 39 lbs. I just started exercising last week. I purchased a stationary bike at a yard sale and made a committment to ride 30 minutes each morning. I go 10 miles in that 30 minutes. I've noticed that I do better with the loss when I get a full 60 grams of protein each day. Its very easy to do if you eat chicken. Three ounches of chicken has more than 20 grams of protein, and I have it for lunch and dinner. Many days I get in the 70's with the protein. Also the water is very important. Both play vital roles in the success of this surgery. You stated that you can tolerate sugar. My advice there..... dont even go there. I would stay so far away from that. Convince yourself that you'll dump if you have it and dont even try. Cause a little bit here may lead to a little bit there as well and before you know it, cookies and candy bars are back in your life. You dont want to do that. I hope this helps. Hang in there! God bless! Melanie

HI Tisha. I'm 10 wks post-op,and have lost 63 lbs. My husband and I have been walking almost every night and I drink lots of water. I have not been walking like I should lately, cause I work late now. But I plan to join a water aerobic class. My friend who had gastric bypass surgery 2 weeks before me has lost 76 lbs and has does no excersie at all. I'm trying to talk her into the water aerobics, but so far she doesn't think she needs it!! I have noticed that my weight loss is slowing down some now that I'm not walking as much. I'm a CNA in the short Stay unit at a medical center, and I'm on my feet all day. We all need to encourage each other to get active and exercise. I heard Curves is good work in a short amount of time. I hope you can go tomorrow or this weekend. Do you have a friend that would go with you? and you could motivate each other? It's also important to drink alot of water, and limit yourself on fast food. Good Luck.. Jeanne

Tisha, everyone's body is diffrent. Don't compare your loss to anyones because the more you have to lose the quicker the weight will come off in the beginning. Do not listen to anything about not exercising. The ones who do that are not going to be as healthy as you! They will have alot of excess skin from not toning and they will gain weight back faster because their metabolism will not change and they have not changed their habits. You have to change all your habits and exercise is important to reversing the damage that has been done to your body by the weight. I do walk away the pounds by leslie sansone and I use my gazelle. Find fun things that work for you!
