A question for May people
Somedays I can eat so much food it scares me and then other days I can barely eat two or three bites and I am full to bursting! I know it depends on what you are eating, such as cottage cheese as opposed to chicken, but is this really normal? I know I worry way too much and sometimes think that I have "blown out" my pouch, but I know I really haven't. I just wondered if anyone else out there has ever wondered the same thing? I know the past week has been weird because my time of the month finally showed up (I haven't been regular for quite some time) so I know part of it is that. I just thought I would throw it out there to all of the May surgery people and see what you all thought. Also, I am down 44 pounds as of today and wondered if that also is "right on track" with most of you? Sorry to ask so many questions, but I don't post very often anymore. Thanks in advance for any answers you might have!!
Hi Laura,
I think the main thing to remember... which is really hard, because I struggle with it every single day... is that we are all going to lose at different paces... I look at all the before and after pix every day and cannot imagine that one day my pix may be up there... I wonder why it's taking so long for anyone to notice that I have lost weight and wonder about all the people who say "it's just melting off"... cuz it doesn't feel like it is to me. I'm down 43 lbs. as of last week and haven't a clue how much more since it's been a week since I weighed in... BUT, to answer your food question... I haven't really been able to eat anything lately but crackers and soup... (and not together)... I eat those ritz crisps...and yes, I know they are carbs, but they are the only things that seem to want to go in... I did get about an ounce of chicken salad down yesterday on some of those ritz crisps... but other than that and soup... that's it for me!! Oh, I did eat some peanuts yesterday and those seemed to stay down too... anything else I eat, seems to just get thrown up and I'm sick of throwing up... so I don't even try it... In fact, I'm almost afraid to try anything new now or anything that I'm going to have to chew as I'm afraid of throwing up. I certainly hope these feelings pass!! I'm almost at 7 weeks out and feel that things should be progressing more, but they aren't...
The thing to remember, is that we are all moving at our own speed, some faster, some slower... the main thing to focus on is we are getting healthy... one day at a time!!
Good luck and congrats on your weight loss!
Aloha,
Loree
Laura,
I have felt the same way! Most days, I don't feel like eating much at all, but there have been a couple of times I've felt that I overdid it and was terrified that I had either popped my pouch or stretched it out too much. I have also found that, after those couple of times, I felt MISERABLE afterwards! Sick, bloated, intestinally distressed, headache...so now when I feel the urge to take just a couple more bites if something is tasting particularly good (a rare occurance), I remember how terrible I felt after overindulging.
As for the weight loss, I agree with others that we can't really compare ourselves with each other. We all started at different places with different bodies, so our loss will be at different rates. I have heard other post-ops say countless times that the slower you lose, the less skin sagging you'll have, so I don't worry about a "slow week."

Well I have ate too much at one time before, but it hurt like hell in my throat and chest, like it was stuck. I had my surgery May 24th , and I have lost 44 lbs to date also. I have been at this weight for about a week now and it is driving me crazy. I know it slows down some, and I will hit plateaus but it still is nerve wrecking. You are doing fine, try not to over eat, drink lots of water, and lots of protein. - Melissa
Well, you aren't alone. Some days I feel like I eat a massive amount (that's not reality, just my perception) and other days I barely eat anything. I've been nauseated off and on for the past 2 days and threw up last night. Sometimes, I feel hungry, but as soon as I put stuff in my mouth, my pouch rebels. A friend of mine thinks it's early gall bladder symptoms and I'm beginning to think she's right. I've only lost 37 pounds as of today. But, I started working out last week so maybe I'll boost my metabolism some and the weight will start coming off. Good luck.
Thanks for all of your responses, I really appreciate them. It makes me feel better to know that some of you have the same feelings. I weighed myself today and am now down a total of 46 pounds. I know I am doing very well, I guess I just want to hear it once in awhile!! Who doesn't? All of you are doing awesome too, keep up the great work!! Good luck to all of you on your journeys and thanks again for answering my post!
Laura,
I actually asked my nutritionist about this very issue, because it was happening to me too. She told me some things don't change -- that there will be some days when I want to, and will be able to, eat more than others. She didn't elaborate on my pouch size or anything...she just indicated it was fairly normal and expected.
I don't journal my food intake, but I think if I were REALLY concerned about the amounts I were taking in I would go to the work of writing it all down. Right now I still think I'm well within my limits, so I don't worry too much about writing it down. Journaling is a great tool to really see what you're taking in.
I'm at 7 weeks and I've lost about 35 pounds. Not as much as some, but right where I'm supposed to be according to my surgeon. Isn't it hard to NOT compare yourself to others? I'm at a mini-plateau (or a sticking scale) and have been for over two weeks. It's frustrating, but just reminds me to follow the rules and get my behind out there and exercise!
So that's what I'm going to go do now...LOL
