numbness??
I was just wondering if anyone experienced any numbness after surgery? At the hospital most of my backside and lower back were a little numb. Now most of that has gone away, but there are still little patches where there is numbness. After surgery I had pretty significant back pain (which I had not had pre-op) and so I guess I'm wondering if these two could be related?
Hi Jennifer
I too have severe back pain after surgery. Turns out I some how dislocated a rib during surgery...not sure how...anyway I am going through accupuncture now to help (which is amazing)
I would think you have some sort of pinched nerve. Have you seen a chiropractor at all for this???

Jennifer,
I have a totally numb right leg... From my knee all the way up on the outside of my right leg... NUMB!! Feel nada!! It's wierd, in the hospital, I rolled over the 2nd night and I felt like this rip and shooting pain in the leg/thigh area there... they told me not to worry about it that it was just from being in bed... but it hasn't gone away and surgery was 6 weeks ago!!
I used to get this "ripping" sensation when I moved it after I hadn't moved it for a long time (especially in the mornings) but now, it's just numb... it almost feels like it's dead skin there... it's bizarre...
I talked to my doctor who said that I probably have a pinched nerve in my spine from the surgery and that is what is causing this. Apparantly when we are "strapped in" during surgery, the belts or whatever do cause some nerve damage like this... so perhaps that is what happened with you. My doctor told me that it could take as long as 6 months to go away, or that it may not go away at all, and that surgery would be an option (way down the road though)... (and by the way, that is NOT an option for me... )
I can still walk and everything and still go to the gym, and the machines have helped a little bit with strengthening and stuff... but I still can't feel it if you touch it!!
Anyway, that's my story... and I'm stickin' to it!!
