cracker sub?

I have come to rely quite heavily on crackers to help me "get down" a lot of my food, especially meats. I would like to get away from these little carb-bearing buggers, but I don't know if I can get down my proteins without them. Does anybody know if there is a cracker "substitute?" For example, something that is veggie- or soy-based that would be a better alternative? Do they make such a thing as a low-carb cracker? Thanks in advance for your help!

Hey Jennifer, I may get slammed to the wall for posting this but I like to eat a couple of pork skins. Golden Flake makes a kind that is baked. Not too bad but still have to watch out for the fat. At one time I heard of something like Better Girlfriends Brand of Snacks, but I dont remember the correct name. I will see if I can find it and sent it to you. Michele Mason -34

I can't handle eating crackers or any bread products at all.... so I too eat pork rinds. There is some protein in them too. In fact it is one of the only foods I can keep down. The other thing I eat in place of crackers or chips is turkey pepperoni that I microwave into a crispy chip. Cassie lap rny 5/11/04

Wrong name, search for Girlfriends Booty Snack Chips. I found this somewhere when I was looking around. I have not tried this. Michele Mason

I think there are some soy chips out there. You'll have to shop around for them. I saw one of the oldtimers posting about them the other week as a cracker substitute. When I eat meats, it isn't a tight feeling necessarily, but I do feel it in my pouch for quite a while. It took me a bit to get used to the feeling. It's a weird sensation. Could it be that you just feel it sitting in your pouch?

When I eat proteins w/o crackers, it's not so much a tight feeling as it is nausea...I get very queasy very easily. I did eat a little grilled chicken today without any help from crackers...maybe I just need to wean myself off them slowly with mild meats until I get used to meat w/o crackers, then try some of the stronger-flavored proteins (like tuna) w/o them too. Oh, and I will be looking for soy chips at the grocery! Thanks!

I LOVE soy crisps. They make a great cracker substitute. Crunch and protein - ya gotta love that. Be carefull and read the labels - some can be high in calories (of course it's the ones that taste GREAT!!!!) For example, one had 90 cals per serving - one had 160 cals. And to make things worse - the lighter one was MORE chips! I think the ones I like the best I get at the Vitamin Shoppe - zesty BBQ. But I have also found them at other stores as well.
