To Dum*****t to Dump
I've tried birthday cake icing.... the really really bad kind. I just wanted to see if it would trigger dumping. I thought of all things that would since it's nothing but sugar and crisco. I didn't dump. The next day I had a few bites of a full fat, full sugar milkshake.... again no dumping.
It's really kinda scary to know that I didn't dump. Now I have to rely on my own will power again.
i have not intentionally tried anything full sugar. i fear i will dump and if i dont dump on it i might just try it again and again. so as long as i fear what might happen i wont try it. therefore i wont dump and i wont try other things that have sugar. but this is just me. every one is different. i dont crave sugars. everything actually that i have eaten that was s/f was actually to sweet. but when i do have a s/f craving i eat a bowl of cereal and it works like a charm. of course made with splenda.

Daleny ,
Sugar is deadly . Trust me ... Are we going to eat things that we should not probably .. But I avoid it to the max .# 1 I do not want to dump .. scares the hell outa me . # 2. Sugar is evil .. It will send your glucose levels in to the heavens .. and is a great way to gain weight ...
There will be times of course I may get sugar in when I do not want it - or make a bad choice .. I pray that It does not happen . But I have come to damn far to even think of eating sugar or anything else that is not on my surgeons plan . I was not a big sweet eater to start with .. I am a meat and tater girl ..
Just please be carefull - remember the basics - Protein - Veggies - Water.
I hope that your craving - if that is what is happening passes ...
I have dumped 2 times as of right now.... 1st time it was with a jello smoothy thought it would be ok, but it was not, this was within 2 weeks after surgery.
Then yest. did it again. Had ate 2 and some of the klondike low carb icecream sandwiches, My son kept taking part of the ones I was eating, so I went back and got more. This was my mistake. One sandwich and I have no problem.
what I experienced was pounding heart beat, hot then cold sweat, stomach cramping, then crying, feeling weak. Took me about 1 hr to get over this.

Most sweet stuff makes me gag the second I put it in my mouth. I did take a bite of one of my kids' homemade chocolate chip cookies yesterday and it tasted OK. It was the Nestle Tollhouse kind, which taste a tiny bit salty and have the semi-sweet chips, so maybe that's why I didn't gag. I don't know why I did it...couldn't resist the little fella wanting to share his cookie with me!
I actually experienced dumping a couple of times before I had surgery. The incident I remember in particular was at a school staff meeting last year. On an empty stomach, I ate a Krispy Kreme glazed donut and had a cup of coffee with too much sugar in it. I was shaking, sweating, and extremely nauseated. I also got very light-headed. I ended up having to lie down for about 20 minutes and eating a couple of crackers before I felt better. I definitely don't want to go through that again, so for now I'm glad that sweets make me gag!
I have dumped twice since the surgery...once on pickles (with the juice) - don't ask...weird craving. And second...got a fruit and yogurt at McDonalds - thinking it would be fine. About 15 min. after eating it...I felt yucky to my tummy...then the cramps came on....sweating, heart palpitations..then agonizing diareha.....that lasted about an hour....definately not good. Haven't dared to eat anything with sugar since.
Ok, I know this sounds crazy but I had a mini dump on peanut butter on a saltine cracker. To figure out which one it was, I have eaten peanut butter again without probems, I am kind of afraid of the crackers at the moment. Maybe in a few months. I have only had a taste of something sweet twice. Homemade icecream and a choc chip cookie yesterday. I am trying to be good.

I have only dumped once and am going to do my darnerest not to repeat the experience. The funny thing was that it wasn't with sugar, it was with fat. I was on a pureed diet and my husband kept making me tuna and egg salad. The problem is (unknown to me) he was making them with regular mayonaise. well, when you have that 3-4 times a day, that is a lot of fat in the mayo. I woke up in the middle of the night with cramping, nausea, lightheaded, feeling like I was going to pass out and the worst cramping I have ever had. (and I've had kids) Oh yeah. and the worst sweats I've had since menopause. I sat on the toilet for almost an hour with greasy, liquid diarrhea. I thought I was going to die. Now I watch everything that goes into my mouth. I am deathly afraid of even trying anything with sugar in it. My daughter is a year post op and she can eat almost anything without problems. She dumps occasionally, but doesn't seem to mind it.
