FRIDAY QUESTION

After having surgery, especially recently post-op, our food selections are limited and our portion sizes are a bit alarming to those around us. I have friends who are a bit uncomfortable asking me over for dinner or inviting us out to eat now that I'm post-op. HOW DO YOU PUT OTHERS AT EASE WITH YOUR NEW EATING BEHAVIOR? I've been very straightforward about this with my friends; they were fretting over me at a cook-out they had when I was just 2 wks out. I told them not to worry and to PLEASE not stop inviting me-just to plan on a child's portion for me. After saying this a few times, they seem to understand. I just hope they don't invite me out for ice cream . Hugs, Susan

Hey Susan... That is a Great question!!! Everyone seems so afraid that anywhere we go, I won't be able to eat anything!! I just chuckle. I always seem to find something and laugh with everyone after I am done and my plate is still full. It's become a joke with me and my friends. For instance, we went for italian and one of my friends ordered ziti with meatsauce and said..."I'll give you one of my noodles, that will fill you up till tomorrow!!!" The best way to deal with this tends to be humor for me. Luckily I'm dealing with all of it much better than I had thought I would and I don't want to eat the food off of everyone else's plate. I can barely touch my own!!! Hey, if they invite you out for ice cream, most ice cream places have italian ices. Those are Great!!! It's a perfect alternative!! Wendy

Since I haven't told anyone except my husband and parents about the surgery, nobody knows. Since I have the Lap band I can eat just about anything, just not alot. I just pick at dinner and move things around, and if people ask, I just say I'm not very hungry. Seems to work. I have lost 35 lbs so far and everybody just thinks I have been dieting.
