Throwing Up!
Hi Gang...
Anyone else having this awful problem???
Doesn't happen every day... but when it does... oh yikes... OK, here's the scenario... had surgery on 5/27 ~~ On liquids for 2 weeks... then started on tuna and soft stuff... OK for a week, then started throwing most stuff up... but able to keep in liquids, yogurt, pudding etc. ok... then my doctor thought maybe there was a stricture, so he put me back on full liquids again, to see if it would clear up.. and it did... and I was able to eat (and don't we use that word loosely!! ) again and keep stuff in... last night decided to try chicken... I poached 1 oz of chicken breast, had 1 oz. of mashed potatoes and 1 oz. of cream of chicken soup (to make it mushy)... I got in about 1/2 of that (if even that much) and felt totally sick and threw up...
This morning, got up had a protein drink and was frothing again... (have you experienced frothing???) and then a little while ago I decided to try the egg salad (which always goes good) on cracker again and of course, after 2 crackers, I threw up again!! I'm so sick of throwing up!!!
I don't know what it is... I know I'm not eating slow enough... and I"m probably taking too big of a bite, but I still can't understand this throwing up all the time... and then feeling like crap for another hour!!
Anybody got any ideas????? This is bugging the crap out of me... I'm hitting that "if I knew then what I know now" time and almost wishing I hadn't done this... I'm afraid of soft foods for the rest of my life...
I'm 5 weeks out today... down 39 lbs. ...
Thanks guys...

Loree,
You are eating the correct foods, however, if you eat too fast (which you admit) and if you eat too large a spoonful, you will
Try getting a small baby spoon and using that and time your meals. You need to take your time and use 30 minutes to eat. I know it is difficult. I have the same problem. Today I ate my lunch really fast b/c I was starving and guess what? right back up. I know it wasn't "what" I ate, it was that I ate too fast. It all knots up in your pouch and then it wants to come back up.
Try it. See if it works. If not, call your surgeon right away!
Best of luck to you and Congratulations on your weight loss!

Loree,
I have had a few of those episodes. I can attribute each to eating too fast or not chewing well enough. When I find myself doing that I go back to my toddler's spoon and tell hubby I need to eat alone. Sometimes if I eat with our baby around I talk and eat too fast and don't chew well enough. Good luck! Oh, I've also figured out that I do much better if I have something to moisten the bites. For example, if I'm having shrimp I will add some refried beans and it helps the food go down and stay down better.

Glad you're doing so well with the losing even if eating has become a misery for you. I've been nauseated for the past two weeks with occasional vomiting. Still, I'm able to keep down chewed foods.
What you're describing sounds a lot like a stricture to me. Have you called the doc after you tried solids again?
I know what you mean about second guessing your decision. I know in my heart that it was right, but my stomach tells me another story.
BTW, I know precisely what you mean about "frothing"-how terrible. I even do that sometimes with the Nectar I have, and that doesn't take milk.
Definitely call the doc again. If it's a stricture, then there's help; you shouldn't suffer a moment more than you have to. Please post again to keep us updated, okay?
Hugs,
Susan
Hi Guys, it's me Loree...
Thanks for all your wonderful words of encouragement and advice... I don't know what I'd do without you guys!!
I kept a piece of deli thin sliced chicken last night along with a couple graham cracker sticks... and another protein drink...
Today I was able to have a protien drink... about 4 ounces of soup, a tiny piece of that sliced chicken (and I do mean tiny) and some ritz crisps crackers...
AND NO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I guess I am really learning the hard way that I have to really really really chew and really really really watch how fast I am eating... I think that is the clue...
So... I'm learning... as are we all... Now, if I can just get past the head hunger and the feeling of being deprived... then life will be a bag of cherries...
So... thanks again all...
Love & hugs to you!!

I'm having the same problem. I'm almost 8 weeks out and it has become an almost daily thing for me. I went to my doc about it around 3 weeks ago and he said that I may have scar tissue build up on my opening. They did an upper GI and things seemed to be pretty good but they compared it to the GI directly after surgery. He told me that just because it was better than the first one doesn't mean that something isn't wrong and that sometimes it clears up on its own after a few weeks and other times they have to stretch the opening with a ballon. I'm seriously considering having this done. I'm barely holding any food at all down. I'm living mostly off liquids. My meds even make me sick sometimes.
