Birth Control

Hi Guys!! I have a question... I'm almost 4 weeks out and I need to get back on some birth control... I have heard that we are not able to absorb all the "good stuff" in the pill anymore and that we should seek alternate forms of birth control... The patch wont' work on us because there are weight limitations... My gyno didn't want to do the depo shot, because it increases hunger... SO... the big question is... What can we do??? Anybody have any ideas????? There is this new ring thing... sounds too wierd to me... you insert it and leave it in for 3 weeks and then get it out for a week... (and this just doesn't sound like something I want to do...) Any ideas people???? Thanks!!

I do not want to have more children and my gyn would not put me on pills due to my wt and age, So I asked for a IUD and she agreed, I have had it since Jan. of this year and it is wonderful, no remebering a pill, and my monthly is a very light spotting for about 2 days. I knew I was going to have surgery sometime this year and did not want to take a chance it having to be postponed to to a pregnacy. The IUD name is Menera. It is good for 7 yrs. Diane Lap RNY -35#

ABSTINENCE works for me! Honestly, my gyno took me off the pill some time ago due to my blood pressure. Since then, we have been using the "old fashion condom". Not real thrilled about it but I'm not comfortable with anything else. Trying to talk DH into getting "fixed". He is not very receptive. What's a girl to do? ~ * Alice Ann * ~

Oh Loreen I was so glad you asked this question. I am facing the same delima. I've always used the rhythm method and it always worked for me. Well, except for this 2 1/2 year old I conceived one Christmas day when my mind wasn't on the rhythm. But now my system seems all messed up and I've skipped a period. I don't want to risk getting pregnant now. So, I asked my PCP at my check up yesterday and he said I'd have to go through my gyn. I hate going to the gyn. SO, I have to see a new gyn Monday and have no clue what I need to be doing for BC. I might check into the IUD. Christie

Hi, My surgeon said we can take the pill & they want us on some form of birth control & said the pill is perfect. He said not being able to absorb the pill is a myth. I'm going to start the pill after my next cycle. I was going to get a IUD but after doing alot of research decided it was not something I will ever get. If you plan on having kids later it's not the best choice. I have 4 small kids & I'm not having anymore but still wouldn't get a IUD just my personal choice. Right now we use condoms. Hi Kelly, Apparantly, the patch only works (or works best) if you are UNDER 198 lbs. which I clearly am NOT!! I saw an ad in Fitness Magazine last night for the patch too... and actually spent the time reading all that fine print and it is right there... that the "effectiveness" is better in those under 198 lbs... Good luck and thanks for your reply! Loree

I was recently put on the patch and was sick the whole time. I have never felt so bad in all my life. I am now going to have my doctor put me on the Nuva Ring. I am told that it cannot be felt when it is in and the level of hormones in it is much less than the patch. The patch is a "one dose for everyone" thing and should not be used by anyone over 200lbs. The ring doesn't have such limitations. They have a website with comparisons if anyone is interested.

Hi Kathy!! My doctor suggested that Nuva Ring too... I'm just not crazy about the putting it in and getting it out part!! Otherwise, it seems like a good idea... I had heard the same thing about the patch too, with the weight limitations... The Depo Shot is supposed to increase hunger, but my doc says that that is going to not be a factor with the pouch... Yesterday my surgeon told me it's ok to be on the pill... So much confusion!! Yes, I'd be very interested in that website for comparison... if you don't mind e-mailing it to me... I'd be grateful!! Aloha, Loree
