Still dealing with my leak......
Well it has been exactly a month today and I am still dealing with my leaking pouch. I had a JP drain inserted so the tube is going right up to where my pouch is leaking and keeping me from developing an infection. While the amount that I am leaking has slowed down some I seem to have hit a plateau and the leaking doesn't seem to be getting better. Here are my options:
1. Keep the drain in until I have 10ml of leakage per day or less. Eat normally.
2. Have the doctor go in endoscopically and use surgical glue to seal up the spot where the leak is occuring. Get an IV for nutrition that has to be hung for 6 hours a day and get all my nutrition and liquids by IV for 2 weeks. Nothing by mouth during these 2 weeks. I shoul also mention I am needlephobic and hate IV's. What a pickle.
So what would you guys do?
I would either allow him to go in and seal the leak or go for two weeks IV nutrition, NPO. They can also place a PIC line which is for people that need long term IV and do not want a permenent solution. Central line is the other option. With either on you would just needed to be plugged in for feedings.
Either way a leak is SERIOUS and can end in death from peritonitis!!! Either way this sounds like something that needs to be fixed NOW!!
How did you come out the hospital with a leak. They don't do the swallow studies on you to make sure you have no leaks?
Good luck
