slooooow weight loss
I am 3 weeks today and the PA at the Drs office put me on solid foods 12 days out. I thought that was soon but he said it was ok to eat all the protein I want as long as I chew chew chew. I have kept everything down. Except 2 problems..... 1 I lost 35lbs and now it is like a 1/2 lb a day and sometimes nothing. 2 I feel awful!!!! Everytime I eat or drink I feel nausated. I am tired all the time and I can't go on long trips or I hurt. (Gas pain I think). Does anyone else have this problem??? I hate feeling like this. I keep asking myself "what the hell were you thinking??"
Hi Margie, Don't worry I'm going through exactly the same thing. I lost 30 pounds in a very short time and I too have slowed down to a pound or two about every four days. I think my body is just adjusting. I get tired easily also. I think a lot of us think what have I done to myself, but it's only been such a short amount of time since surgery think about the benefits a year or so from now. God Bless you and keep your chin up. Debra
I'm a slow looser too. But, worse than that is feeling sick everytime you eat, having no energy, and having the stomach ache. I felt the same way. The good news is it gets better. I am now 6 weeks out and as long as I am very careful what I eat, chew the hell out of it and watch the amount I don't feel nauseated. Quit eating before you actually feel full, sometimes it doesn't register until it's too late. When I was about 3 weeks out we went for a drive and a short walk down a pretty mountain trail. The next day I had the worst side ache, all day long, of my life. My doctor said I was over doing it. Dont push yourself too hard. What used to be easy is not going to be, at least not for awhile.
For the longest time I absolutely hated what I had gotten myself into and if it had not been for the fact that I had such severe GERD, that was cured by my surgery, I would have been even more negative. BUT, today I feel really good. It's like walking out on the otherside and having a new life. Get more of your protein from a shake, and try mixing it half strength. Full strength made me sicker than a dog. Remember to sip because bigger drinks of liquid not only hurt in the pouch, I found it made me feel nauseated too.
Hang in there. I know what the hell you were thinking. You were thinking I want a better life. You were sick and tired of being sick and tired. Your joints all hurt and your heart hurt too. It's going to be ok, but you have to remember you just had MAJOR SURGERY. It hurts, but it gets better every day.
Good Luck and God Bless you. I'll keep you in my prayers.

Wow!! I am so glad to see this post! I have been feelilng the same way. My Dr. put me on solid foods June 11th, 2 1/2 weeks after my surgery. I had lost 30lbs by my post-op appt. Now I am only down about 5 more lbs. I have been lucky. No pain or nausea. I do have alot of gas with some gas pain. No dumping thank goodness. I do chew chew chew, drink lots of water, and my protein drinks to make sure I got all my protein in for the day. I am glad to see I am not the only one feeling like I am not losing fast enough. I am now only weighing myself once a week. Every day just gets me upset. Also I am still in the same size clothes so it is like 35 lbs where? Is it really gone? Stick with it sweetie! We are all here for each other and are doing great.- Melissa
