I had surgury on May 18th and one week later they started to take the staples out and it opened up. I got a wound. The next week I got two more when they took the rest of the staples out. Last week another site opened up and it is extremely tender and a little painfull. How long is this going to go on for? I hate having to have a nurse come every day and I hate having it packed. I get skeeved out every time.

Everyone heals differently. The most important thing you can do is make sure you get in your protein. Your body won't heal efficiently without it. If there is a wound care center near you, you could get a referral there and they could probably do something to speed up the process after they evaluate it completely. (I'm a wound care nurse in real life and I know for a fact that most surgeons know very little about healing wounds.) At any rate, without seeing your wounds and knowing more, this is the best advice I can give you. Good luck!

Hi Kathy, I had WLS on 05/20/04 and had a few problems with my incision healing. I had to return to my surgeon who is at some distance for wound care. He told me to keep it clean, dry, shower every day. I did not require packing however (thank GOD). I had a hole in the umbilicus where he did a hernia repair and that started to bleed fresh blood. He told me that over time it would close and not to worry. I was worried about infection. I had done as he instructed and it is closing, however it has only been one month since surgery. He said it could drain for six to eight weeks total. I wish you the very best in your recovery. God Bless. Verdonna.
