Hi I had my surgery May 11th and like a week ago I started having constipation and the doc gave me benefiber and it's not helping ....someone on the main board said dulcolax suppositories.I am still on pureed food (Protein only) so I can't have fruit or veggies.I took Milk of Magnesia and I thought I was gonna die and I can't keep taking it to make me regular.Does anyone here have suggestions? Thanks for the help. Angi

Hi Angi- I never did use those suppositories that dh got for me. I tried a Slim Fast low-carb shake and the fiber in it (or maybe one of the 9 million chemicals?) blasted stuff on through. It has 20 g of protein and 6 g of fiber and only 2 "net carbs". In addition, I've been drinking juice (the nutritionist actually has 100% juice on the list but I am afraid of dumping)-the Light Cran-Raspberry and the diet V8 Splash, which I water down 50/50. Those might be helping. Wonder if the "no fruit no veggies" still counts things like low-sugar juice? I understand that increased exercise and water intake help, but two weeks out has its limitations. Sorry that you're having problems with constipation. It's really so uncomfortable and being patient to wait it out is so difficult. Laxative use usually results in long-term constipation for me, so I try to avoid using them EVER. No telling what the new pouch will allow-the old raisin bran cure is pretty much a thing of the past or the distant future. Good luck and I hope everything "works out in the end". Hugs, Susan

Thanks for responding ,I have started drinking the slim fast low carb drink .I'm not sure if it will help .The doc made me get an enema how awful, but I felt alot better.I know what your saying about the laxitives I find that to be true also,so I dont like to use them but I did use the Milk of Magnesia and it didn't work so they made me get the other .I will try the Diet V8 I have been thinking about getting it maybe it will help....at least it will taste good. Thanks again Angi

I have had some problems with constipation but not severe. Mostly seems to be when I don't drink enough water. Are you drinking enough water? Donna

I had quite a problem with constipation. Milk of Magnesia is awful. I had Magnesium citrate to drink, and I used a suppository. The Mag. citrate I had was in cherry flavor, and was not bad at all. I mixed it with Crystal Light. I was so nervous to use a suppository, but I'll tell you, they were a Godsend. I felt sooooo good after that. Good luck to you. Take care of the problem right away, I ended up in the ER.

There is a presciption called Miralax. It's a powder you mix with water or juice. Has no flavor. Took some today. I'll let you know how it works. I'm also doing prune juice, a half a 5.5 oz can, but I dilute it otherwise the gas is nasty. Not sure it's working very well either. Had this problem before surgery. Now it seems to be worse. Ugh.

Hi Angi, My Dr. says to use the Benefiber daily, but so far I have had the other problem,so I don't need help with that LOL I felt a little backed up last week and I used a Fleet Glycerine suppository, and it worked within 15min.!! Hope this helps!!
