Just wanted to touch bases with you all. I am today 4 weeks post op today and I have lost 22 lbs. I am feeling great. Just wanted to ask you all a question too. I have read where lots of people at my same post op have lost tons more weight. Like, 30 or 40 lbs. Is it where you start from that determines your weight loss. My weight started at 282. I know I am eating the way I should and I could not possible eat less without getting sick. Is the 22lbs on track? Hope to here from someone that can relate. Bye Brenda

Hey Brenda ... I am EXACTLY like you !! I weighed 280 to start and have lost 25 pounds in my ONE MONTH (which is actually today but my date was 5/4) ! I have read that anyone under 300 is considered a *lightweight* (HA!! Never thought of me that way ) and that we would lose weight more slowly than those that had more to lose to begin with...So I am comfortable with my weight loss thus far and as long as that scale continues to go down each week ( even if just a pound or two) ..it is better than what I did weigh ! LOL I would be interested in hearing from those that are further out with this same situation and whether we are on the right track or just plain delusional Write me anytime !! What was the date of your surgery ? Kathy

Kathy, guess what...my date also was 5/4. But, as you know it is 4 weeks as of today. You are right as long as that scale goes down that's OK by me too. How are you feeling and what are you eating. I have found that I can eat lots of things. I have not tried beef or fried anything yet though. Just scared of dumping. I have not had any troubles as of right now though. I feel great!!! Let's keep in touch. Bye Brenda

I am also 4 weeks post op May 4 2004. I am also under 300 lbs. I have lost 30 lbs, but I think it might be because I gained some the month befor surgery. I have found this whole process totally amazing. I truly do feel like the old fat food crazed person is Dead. And the new me is alive and doing better every day. We had a funeral for my best friend food yesterday. My 8 children and there families came, it was fun I gave the elegy for my frend food and what life is like with out it. (the foods I should not eat, and eating too much, and at inapproiate times) We buried some token foods like potato chips french fries and candy ect, and I have a small head stone in my back yard as a reminder. My children and spouses each told me how proud of me they are. It was great. I went into a deep depression the week befor surgry. I was very worried how I would cope with the world with out food (eating what I wanted when I wanted it) Food truly had become my friend it got me thru saddness happiness, disipointment, ect... But now I am able to enjoy those emotions with out the food. Have any of you felt this way? Debi 246/216/125

Hi Brenda, I am 3 weeks post-op and down around 22 lbs. I started at 340. I do know they heavier the person the more they will loose at the beginning. I know of a guy who weighed 400+ and he lost 145 the first two months. Every person is different with different results. Don't get discouraged - it will happen. I keep thinking - before this surgery how long would it have taken me to loose 22 lbs????? Instead of 3 weeks it would have been months. So you are doing great!!!!! Cheers, Wendy

Hi Brenda! I asked my nurse that exact question about how much weight should I be losing and her answer was they like to see 1 pound a day average. I had surgery May 6 and have lost 27 lbs. I started at 262, so she said I was right on track for how far out I am. I don't know when that number changes however, obviously we won't keep that pace up forever - but it sounds good to me now. I also know that it can make a difference on the rate you lose by what your starting weight is and other factors like medications you may be on etc. I always figure when in doubt - call those that know - my nurse has got to be sick and tired of my by now! Keep up the great work and continue having fun being a loser! Have a great day! Kathy H.

Thanx Kathy for the info, I do know by watching this site everyone is different. I am not loosing 1lb per day but as long as I am loosing I am happy. My goal is 3 or 4 lbs per week. Wish me well!! Thanx again, Brenda in Tx,
