Mystory beging w/ the supposed support group mtg that I had my best friend come with me to. It was not a support group it was more like a let's scare the **** out of Evelyn meeting.
The woman who was running this meeting is a nurse who 2 yrs ago had the VBG band and has lost 160lbs well hurray for her!
Now we are all talking (mind you I was early and other people were late so we had to start late. I was tired I am sorry I am really not a nasty person and i am sorry
Anyway we are all talking and I mention this board, well OMG! I thought I was gonna be shot, the look she gave me , honey idf looks coould kill I wouldn't be here posting right now. She says well I was going to get to that and what I have to say about those boards is you shouldn't use them! I was like really? Why??????? Well she says you get too much wrong info there and it's not good. I wanted to get up and kick her right in her ASS!!!!!!! Well excuse me miss I am perferct (NOT!!!!!!! ) Just because you get info there dosn't mean you have to go and run off and try it, what works for one person does not always work for the other (DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH) I said there is more to the NY board than just info there is SO MUCH LOVE AND SUPPORT!!!!!!! I have to say I amso angry All of you know me here at the bpoard and this is not my nature to be this way.
I know I am rambling buand I am sorry. Now this is just the beginning as ou all know I have had a very positive and upbeat outlook on this surgery well let me tell you. This bride of Frankenstein Attitude woman scared the holy living crap out of me and I am so afraid now!!!!!!!
Shewas talking about hoewthe open is so much better than the LAP so I said really whaty do you say that ? She says to me OH you will have so much more pain w/ the LAP than you would with the open if you were there when she said it and the way she emphisized the word PAIN! (didn't spell that right, you knoiw what I am trying to say) I wanted to run out of the off and call this whole surgery off, I'm not kidding really!!!!!!!
Please I have only 7 days to go and now I am so scared (I wasn't until this Bit-- made me feel like this!!! sorry for the language)
Can you please tell me if tyou have had the LAP what your experiences were and the pain is it really that bad. This woman made it seem like you would just want to die from the pain. I know everyone is different but I really need some input.
Also iam going to call my doctor today and let them know what she has done to me I don';t think she should (in my opion) doing these meeting ans scaring people!!!!!!!
HELP ME PLEASE I DON"T WANT TO CANCLE MY SURGERY BUT AM AM SCARED!!!!!!!
Evelyn
Evelyn, take a deep breath for starters. This woman sounds like a jerk. So what? If you cancel your surgery, that will be on you. You can't control what other people do or say, but you DO control your response. I read your profile. You sound like a woman who has dealt with things in her life, not run from them. You are strong and capable! You know what the woman said is bunk. Laugh at it! How pathetic is she to need to scare people!
Get back to your support system, including this board, and regain your equilibrium. NO ONE can knock you out of the game!! Best of luck and just hang in there.
p.s. I'm headed out for my surgery in an hour (lap band). Honestly, I slept well last night and I'm not anxious so far (knock on wood!) because I know I've made a well thought out decision.
Wow! *****comened this group to you? If your Dr. did I would sure let him know what went on, how you felt, if he agreed with the leader, I would sure have a lot of questions for him! If he is shocked I would encourage his to look into it and have him find you a better suppport group. Your under enough stress who needs more. I haven't had my first appointment with a surgeion yet but I would be upset also. Best wishes to you on your surgery. doris
Evelyn,
Don't let this lady intimidate you. She sounds like she has talked to someone or had problems herself. As far as pain goes ask your doctor if your going to have a pain pump ie...morphine pain pump or demerol ect...It helped me to have my morphine pain pump. I had minor pain the first 2 1/2 days because the morphine kept me for the most part asleep which I needed because they sent me down to x-ray twice to drink the horrid barium which made me sick only because the radiologist thought he saw a leak! The second set of x-rays showed no leak and the Dr. said if he seen the first set I wouldn't have had to have the second one done.
We all deal with pain differently. You can stub your toe and think nothing of it...I on the other hand will stub my toe and scream like someone has cut it off. Don't let the thought of pain stop you from reaching your goal.
I had an open RNY last Tuesday and was home by Saturday to spend mothers day with my kids. THey sent me home with demeorl but I've never used it. So don't let this Witch scare you....she sounds like she's trying to blow smoke and you let her get the fire going. Put it out and let the physician know what she did and how this could effect his pratice if she keeps it up. If she scared you she may be scaring others.
Best of luck,
Blessings,
Alicia
Dear Evelyn,
I had my surgery on Monday May 10th. I had a proximal lap rny and I am doing just fine. I had some pain postop and was hooked to a pca morphine which I hit quite often at first but then I became nauseated with dry heaves so I stopped all my pain med until the next morning when the nurse gave me oxycotin by mouth. the only pain i had was gas in the lower left abd. As a nurse I know the best way to get relief from gas pain is to walk, and that is what I did!!! I haven't had any problem keeping down liquids andI am now keeping a diary of what I am eating to be sure I get enough protein and fluids. I will keep you in my prayers as your surgery date approaches that all goes well for you.
God Bless
Darlene
Evelyn-I am sorry to hear about your meeting. I too am very scared about surgery, and don't know what I would've done if I was there. As you know everyone handles certain pains differently. About open being better, well I find it funny how most Dr's say laproscopic is better for pain and recovery time. Good for you for letting your Dr know, you handled it very well. Please don't let this knock you off your path to a healthier life. The pro's far out weigh the con's! You will be in my prayers for a successful surgery and speedy recovery. I will join you shortly on the loosing side.
