Im in the final countdown...Monday may 10th at 10 am .Surgery for my lap gastric bypass. The past few days have been a emotional rollercoaster, times of happiness and times of fear of not making it out of the surgery. When i had my pre op done i talked to the anestesiologist , i asked him to please not let me die. Such terrible thots going around in my head. The test are good as im healthy but that fear is still there. How do i try to go into the OR with a positive feeling? Plz help me im so frightened. mary ann

Mary Ann, I had my surgery on Monday 05/03 and was home on Wednesday! and YES I HAD THE SAME THOUGHTS! It is totally normal! The best advise that anyone can give you is PRAY, it is truly a wonderful thing, with out it I wouldn't have made it to surgery. I also have a praying family and very supportive friends, I don't know your religious beliefs, But just know you will have "a friend" praying for you on Monday! You said you talked with the anestesiologist, he should have prescribed you something to take the nervousness away the day of surgery, if not they can give you something. You will do great, so go in with positive thoughts, and God will see you through!

I am feeling the exact same way. I find myself praying alot more than I normally do, and talking to god through out the day. I was lucky to get my surgery scheduled not long after my first visit with the Dr. I now find that time seems to be going in slow motion since I found out my date. Normally the days fly by and now it seems they are at a stand still. I will keep you in my prayers for a successful surgery and speedy recovery.-Melissa

Hi Mary Ann, When your fear starts creeping in just close your eyes and visualize all the wonderful, healthy days to come. Days that don't have to only be an existance. Nights full of fun, friends, and just enjoying your reflection looking back at you. My surgery is set for May 25th, and I feel the same way, but this is our "personal project for life" and we will make it through this, you and I. Do you have family? I have my hubby of 19 years and a 30 year old son. We have 4 miniature doggies and just love them all. Do you have pets? I know that when I start dwelling on my fears I'll spend time with them and before I know it, a feeling of peace comes over me. If you ever want to talk, please email me anytime at [email protected] Good luck and remember your new life begins on May 24, 2004 and you deserve it. Judy Cheree

hi Mary Ann, I am having the same feeling. I love to read and usually read a book every 2 weeks. I've been on the same book for about a month. I can't sit still long enough to concentrate. I'm excited and nervous all at once. Everyone has given you good advice. I am praying for you as you start your journey. Post and let us know how you are doing. Maybe something you say will help me .
