Double trouble

My son and I are both having surgery. He is 24 and weighs 519lbs. I am 49 and weigh 330. Our insurance has a written clause against any coverage for bariatric surgery so we must pay cash. For that reason we are going to Spain. His surgery must be done "open" on May 31st My will be done laproscopically, June 1st. We have never been to Europe but this is not a pleasure trip so I don't expect to do much sight-seeing. We are both quite anxious.

Kathryn, blessings to you and your son. I'm sorry that the insurance company can't see the benefits of helping you on your journey to a new healthier life. I will definitely keep you and your son in my prayers and thoughts. May you have a safe and beneficial trip. Gail Eddy RNY - 5/14/2004 Upstate NY

Good luck to you and your son! I have also fought the insurance battle and lost. I am self pay but will be traveling to Little Rock, Arkansas. It is $15,000 for Open RNY there. Quite a savings from my local surgeons. Have a safe trip and try to enjoy Europe a little! ~ * Alice Ann * ~

I am amazed at the low cost of your surgery. Everyone I spoke with has paid $35000 and up!!. Your surgery is coming up soon too. Thank you for your support it means so much to me to have people to share this with who truly understand. I will keep you in my prayers.
