lap banding

I am new to this site, is there anyone on this site that has had the lap banding? I see many RNY's but no lap bandings. I just wondered how they do in weight lose? My date is May 4th and I just wanted to know what to expect.

Hi Claire, No one has had any surgery on this list unless they are having it redone. We are all due for Surgery in MAY. Maybe you should ask on the main support board? There are lot's of people on this list who are having the Lap Band in May. The way I understand it is Lap Banders lose slower then RNY's. But they can eat reg. food sooner then RNY's. 24 hours in the hospital whereas RNY's are in 60 hours or more. Hope I helped you some? Jean

claire, I am having a lapband May 28. RNY's lose more weight upfront. At the five year mark the weight loss is pretty much the same between lapbanders and rny's. Rny's can gain back weight since their pouch can stretch where lapbanders will not. You should check out the lap band forum.
