Hi, May 14 is my date....(hopefully)
Hi all you other May folks! My new date is May 14. I was supposed to have surgery this Friday, March 12, but a problem showed up on my endoscopy.
I have this thing called Barrett's esophagus, and they have to re-test me on April 16 to make sure I don't have any pre-cancerous cells. Anyway, I'm waiting pretty patiently, trying to get myself mentally ready for this challenge.
How is everyone else doing? What are you doing to get ready?
Hi Jayne,
Congrat's on your up coming surgery. I have my date for May 12th. I also have Barrett's Disease because of Sever resistant acid reflex Disease. My main reason for this WLS is to fix this. My Doc. hasn't said anything about me needing a new endoscopy before my surgery. Had my last one back in Oct. 2002. Maybe I need to check on this. I've waited long enough to get to this surgery I don't want no surprises on May 12th.
I know that they have a new way of treating Barrett's if you have precancerous lesions. The FDA has approved PDT, Photofrin Photodynamic Therapy. It's an Injection of Photofrin and this saturates the precancerous cells. Then they use a laser light, that is aimed at these drug-soaked cells and they die. It is done Endoscopically. I would ask your Surgeon about it.
Please let me know how you are doing.
Jean
Wow..thanks. I had no idea there was a treatment for it. I'd always heard it was just a wait and see thing. I will definite ask! I'm so glad you posted this response. I do believe that I will have the surgery. It's just that soemtimes the worries in the back of mind get hold of me. Know what I mean? Thanks again and best wishes for your surgery. I'm sure we'll all be chatting up a storm on the boards here.
