Hi William Yes, ABSOLUTELY! There are MANY men who've had the surgery in my in-person support group through my surgeon's office. I'd say 60% are women and 40% are men from the group. You are lucky in that men tend to lose MUCH faster than women and tend to retain more muscle with their loss. As for getting started, I would suggest checking the listings here on ObesityHelp.com for surgeons in your area. Then start calling them and find out who accepts your insurance. Having a PCP also certainly helps. You can also check out one of the many online support groups through YahooGroups such as Gastric_Bypass_Family at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/gastric_bypass_family . Wishing you lots of success in your journey! Caroline

Hi Linda Each surgeon's office is different. I also had to go through a LOT of hoops including all the pre-op tests prior to seeing my surgeon. But once I saw him, I was scheduled for surgery 3 days later. (Yes, you read right Others have their dates WAY in advance of surgery. Be sure to check with your own surgeon's office about the time frames involved. Best of luck! Caroline

Hi Sondra I also experienced something similar but just to the left of my belly button. Per my surgeon, it was just an area that was healing and was nothing he was concerned about. BUT, I would check with your own surgeon just incase. Hernias can present like this, so you want to be sure to rule this out.

Sondra, I'm sorry to hear that you're feeling crummy, but from what I've heard from others, each day is a new day and you'll be feeling stronger soon. You had quite a bit of work done, it's no wonder your energy level is a little lower than some others. Good for you - taking the time (and using energy) to vent when you need to! Donna

Way to go, Tracey! I loved seeing your smiling face tonight - it inspired me to hang in there as I wait for my surgery to be approved and scheduled. Donna

Paula, My surgery (lap RNY with gall bladder) was May 20th. Since then I have lost nearly 40 lbs. I even mowed the lawn today - first time I could in years. I'm not hungry, don't even want to "share" when the kids bring home McDonalds or pizzas. To be honest, If I had know that the surgery would be this easy, and this effective, I would have done it several years ago. I am off all of my fluid pills and blood pressure medications, and my blood sugar is back to normal without medication. I don't know if this qualifies as a "God send", but it definitly has been a life saver! Good luck, Diane

I would like feedback that the surgery is a God sent? I have tried everything. I just want the entire thing over.

Hi. Haven't had any experiences like this, but it sounds like it could be a hernia or somehting. Being warm to the touch also suggests infection. I'd call my surgeon just to be on the safe side. Good luck! Jeralyn
