Topic: 6 months and 70lbs down
Some days I never thought I would get to this point, I don't care how much information you have, you still don't understand the whole picture! I live in Show Low and came back up here to have my lab work done and now waiting to see how I'm doing. I have lost a lot of hair and because my stool is so small since surgery Simon insists I go back to a gastronologist, even tho I had a colonoscopy right before surgery. Now I am panicking about what this means. Any ideas?

Topic: 105 pounds down!!!!
i made my first milestone goal! i had surgery on 5/19/03 (open gastric) and as of last week, i am down 105 pounds. i started at 355 and last monday i was 245. i was wearing 28/30's and thanksgiving i wore a size 16 pant with an XL shirtand it fit totally comfortable!!!! i am 5'9, so 245 spreads nicely and i couldn't be happier. my doctor wants to see me at 180 by May 2004, and then he said he will discuss my TT and hernia repair. i feel this is completly reasonable, 65 more pounds to go till goal, in 6 months is totally do-able!! then about 15 pounds of tummy skin, arm skin, thigh skin... geesh, maybe even 30 pounds of extra skin removed!! yeah i need some put back in my boobs.... maybe i could save on the implants and use my excess.... lol i hope you all are doing great, & feeling better. stick to your proteins, proteins, proteins!!! such a hard thing this time of year- and exercise, ughhh..... but ya gotta stick to it ****ep telling myself).

Judy, I'm also a little over 6 months out. I've lost about 87 pounds now and I do exercise to help keep my muscle tone. I don't believe we all lose that 100 pounds within the first 5 months. I actually believe slow losers are healthier and have a better chance of sticking with their new eating routine. I still have about 70 pounds to go and I know that it will probably take the better part of 10 months to get there. I wish you the best, and it sounds like your doing great. Keep up the good work.

Hello, Does anyone out there have Medicaid? How has your experience been? I have been un-officially approved and told to find my surgeon, This must be done after you have met Medicaid's criteria and before you are officially approved. My consult is Dec 2nd, this week and I just am on pens and needles. I want this precedure done as much as my doctors do. I guess I am a walking time-bomb waiting for the next attack. The excess weight my body and organs are slowlly falling victim to is, just as much if not more, significantly putting my life at risk everyday I continue to remain so overweight. I am not able to lose any substantial amount of weight quick enough to reduce the stress on my body. My doctors all agree that the surgery is less of a dangerous risk than the surgery. I hope that someone out there will reach out to me by answering this message. Thank you. Hope you had a peaceful, enlightening Thanksgiving.

Hi Sandi, I wanted to discuss your feelings towards your surgeon, Dr Faulkenberry. I am to have a consult with him 12/2/03 and I guess I am a little nervous. My PCP, Lisa Doggett @ Peoples Clinic in Austin has spoken with him regarding my case and he has agreed to the meeting. What hospital did you use for the surgery? I think I will be using St David's in Austin. How did you find out about Faulkenberry? He has agreed to accept Medicaid as long as he feels comfortable with my health etc. He wants my medical records from my lung, heart and my PCP before a final decision will be made. He seems quite thorough and my PCP thinks I will feel comfortable dealing with him. She enjoyed their phone meeting. I will chat later, gotta go for now. Judy B

Hi, my surgery was 5/13/03 and I am very discouraged at this point. I have only had a loss of 55 pounds. The last 2 months it has slowed to hardly anything. I get 80-100 oz. of water, stick to high protein, walk 5-7 days a week, light weight training 3 days a week. I am so despaired at all this. Noreen

My surgery date is the same as yours May 21st I had the DS as of yesterday I have lost -92lbs . I haven't felt this to be slow I eat more now than I did pre-op and never before have I ever lost this much on a diet we still have a good window of opportunity to continue loss I do not know how much more you have to lose i hope to lose 50- 60 lbs more and will consider my surgery a complete success. I have exercised 4 to 5 days a week since I was 6 weeks post-op I also make sure to get in about 75oz of water everyday. I have gone from a size 22 to a size 14/16 depends on the make I was hoping to be a 12 before Christmas but I feel great now and trying to just be happy with the loss I have and progress I have made though at times I too read where someone is a size 10 or 12 and feel alittle jealous cause I want to be there I am happy for them don't get me wrong and I know I will make it there just not happening fast enough for me either I guess.

CONGRATS!!! I am also 6 months and -92lbs since my DS surgery on May 21st . This surgery has truly been a blessing. It is amazing how shocked people are when they see you . I work in a dental office and patients are coming in for their 6 month check-up and walk by me then when they realize it is me the freak, I love the change . ENJOY THE REST OF THE RIDE !!!!!!!

I am a little over 6 months out from RNY and have lost 82lbs. I feel I am losing very, very slowly and I am trying very hard to make the right choices and excersize. I still have a lot to lose too. Anyone else in a similar place or even if not let us know how you are doing. I am also curious how much other people are eating/excersizing at this stage. I do feel so much better than this time last year though
