It has been one year today!!! WOOO HOOOO! I would do it again in a heart beat! All the "learning" to eat again stuff and all! I'm lost about 80lbs. I've only lost about 15-20lbs these last 6 months. In the last month or 6 weeks I have went down another size...I'm now in a meduim top and 12 bottoms. Still have a "big butt"!!!! Just wi**** was FIRM!!! Someday! Be blessed all!
Topic: One year post-op
Today, 5/21/04, is the one-year anniversary of my surgery. I really don't know where the time went. I have lost about 80 lbs. and probably will lose another 10-15 before I level out. I have been able to wear clothes I've been unable to wear for years. That is how I gauge my weight loss. I don't own a scale. I get weighed when I go to the doctor's office. I am now off all of my blood pressure medication. I had been taking two different meds and have now been able to stop taking them both. Most of the hair loss I suffered has grown back and, while my incision itches sometimes (I had open RNY), it is healing and starting to fade. I still have to watch what I eat and am learning when enough is too much. I've also learned that I don't digest protein very well. I eat it, of course, but only in small amounts. I don't regret having had this surgery, but continue to say that it is not for the faint of heart. The first three months were absolute hell and times that I don't want to relive. I have not, however, been able to exercise or walk very much. As a result of osteoarthritis and the excessive weight I carried around for so many years, my hip is deteriorating and will need to be replaced sooner rather than later. My doctor says that the weight loss has been one of best things I could do, not only for my health in general, but for my hip in its deteriorating condition. I'll be able to put off surgery for a while because of it. I still have to learn to make better food choices, but I am learning and will continue to learn more. Best wishes to you all...
Topic: 1 year postop this month! Progress so far :)
Hi everyone
I missed posting about my 1 year postop which was now 2 weeks ago as I was visiting PA and then AZ most of this month, but I am thrilled to say that I've lost 187 lbs in my first year + 2 weeks, going from 367 lbs with a BMI of 61.1 to 179 lbs with a BMI of 29.8! My body fat percentage started out at 56% and is now 21% (an ideal body fat percentage). And in terms of sizes, I've gone from a size 7X to a size Misses Small on top and Misses 12 on bottom (having lost over 160 inches)! Now if only all the excess skin wouldn't be a problem... Actually it's not nearly as bad as it could be as I've exercised my way down in weight and have lost absolutely 0 muscle since last August, but it's still pretty bad. I have a consult with a plastic surgeon the first Tuesday in June (though I don't intend to have PS just yet. This is more to simply find out how much more I should focus on losing before having PS.).
Hope this finds everyone well and loving life!!!

I am very happy that we are all doing so well. I had my surgery on 05/15/03 and I have lost 170 lbs so far... I am too very comfertable at my current weight... 236 lbs. I am 6 feet tall and big boned... When I started this whole journey I was telling myself that I would be so happy if I reached 250 lbs... That was my orginal goal... I have since passed that goal and I am not sure how much weight I should loose. I am able to do all sorts of stuff now... Not afraid to go out in public... resturants, movies, theme parks... you name I want to do it.... Life is great now...

what a difference one year makes, took the first few months after postop to adjust the band to make the weight come off, but I've gone from 350lbs pre-op weight to 250 lbs in one year.
I need to send a thankyou card to my surgeon, weight loss surgery is priceless.
