How long does it take to lose all the weight
Hi EVERYONE, My WLS was 05/03 and I have lost 81lbs so far. I started out at 270 and I'm now 189lbs, I would like to be at 125lbs. I do walk but it seems I not losing as fast as others. I hate protein shakes is there anything else I can get ? How are the protein bars ? Is a little rice, pasta and baked potatoe bad ?
Well Michelle, if you are not doing good. then I am doing worse. I had surgery 05/12/03. I weighed 269 lbs. So far I have lost 75 lbs, and weigh in at 194. I don't feel like I am losing too slow, or taking too long to get it off. I am happy with what I have accomplished so far, and am looking forward to losing more. Hope you get where you are going, and enjoy life while you are accomplishing your goal.

My surgery was 5/27 and tomorrow is 5 months out. I've lost a total of 76 pounds (unless tomorrow brings a wonderful supprise!) I've been happy with the loss so far. Is it the fastest I've heard, NO. But I've not been hungry, I"ve not been pained, I've just been living a really truly life that doesn't seem to revolve around thinking about food all the time. I eat pretty much what I want, like if my family is having something I just eat a small portion - usually only choose ONE item and eat it only so I am satisfied with what I have had. Only about 4 ounces per meal - RARELY any snacks, BUT... Occassionally a Cheeto calls my name loud and clear at work so I buy the little 2 oz pkg. But I make it last me THREE days. *LOL* I haven't been able to exercise like I should - have had some problems with damaged peroneal nerves in my legs. But I figure as long as I am losing (only about 7 or 8 pounds this month) - I"m happy. Do I WISH I had faster loss? OF COURSE! I've got about 35 more pounds to go (started at 260) and am currently at 184/185.
I understand what you mean about feeling like it is coming off so slowly sometimes. I go through that once in awhile and feel like I am not doing as well as others. Remember this, it has and will continue to get harder the closer to goal you are. Keep your plan in mind and remember what you have to do to get where you want to go. You are more than 1/2 way to your goal and have more than 6 months to get there. I had surgery 5/9 and am almost 6 months out and have lost 79#. I lose between 8-10# each month. Could it be better, sure. I just have to look forward to all the things I can celebrate in the months to come! I have ended up setting small term goals for myself, like a month in advance, 2 months in advance. That is a lot easier to think of, than that ideal goal weight. Try setting a Thanksgiving and Christmas goal. You will be so pleased when you blow it outta the water!
With protein, I found a premixed juice that is somewhat terrible, but I can tolerate it. It is called Isopure. I have also snacked on the protein bars but they are really heavy for me. I eat potatoes, and carbs all the time and don't seem to have tons of trouble, some dumping symptoms if I eat too much. I have not had too much pasta and rice but not b/c it gives me trouble, just b/c I really don't care too much for it.
Keep your chin up and remember that you still have plenty of time! Before long you will wonder what all your concern was about!

hi there.. my surgery was in the same month... I have to say this..YES protein drinks suck but......they have their purpose... pinch the nose...and swallow em.. I swear it works.... I would almost eat the most disgusting thing if i had to ...for the results I have seen doing the protein drinks... When i slacked off them i stopped losing... when I used them i lost....
if all else fails..pinch the nose... LOL kills the taste LOL read my profile .... i stopped almost losing and decided to UP my protein to 2X a day and WOW this last week i have lost -5lbs... that aint happened in months (losing that much in one week)... so im going to keep'a doing it! make sure you get a good protein drink tho.. without lots of sugar and carbs... (we can only ingest 30grams at one serving By the way) some protein drinks out there that aren't as good as others.. read those labels... I went with Real Meals but there is others as well..... its bland but it is loaded with good stuff... Good luck in what ever you chose.. for myself - im not wasting my honeymoon.. im going for the *goal* lol
Hello michelle. First of all congrats on your loss. even 1 lbs is better than none. I had my surgery on may the 8th and had some complications. so far i've lost about a 100lbs. when i went to the doc last the "numbers" had shown i had lost 6 lbs. i freaked out! i was extrememly mad at myself and the world. i mean i had pants that fell off of me but fit fine the week before. but my doctor and his staff kinda laughed me. they explained that while i was losing inches i was gaining muscle mass and muscle mass weighs more than the fat. so i'm losing in shape and size but numbers are slow. and i recently got on a scale and i'm sure it was wrong because it said i lost almost 130 lbs. so don't be intimidated by the numbers. if your shape is popping through then that's all that matters!
