I too am a may 01 baby.. lowest weight was 150lb. gained back 40lbs over the past 6 yrs. I did eat too many sweets, and so now i am more mindful of that. Also keep in mind that the fat cells never go away and they are always looking for something to fill up on. I have begun to loss again as i watch the sugar intake. I need to learn to excercise too that would surely help. but i can't seem to get into it. still trying..(smiles) Over all i still eat small portions. I can eat one plate all day. I just have to be mindful of whats on the plate.(smiles) best wishes to you all. and thanks for the flatseed info.

I just recently found out about this website, if I would have only found it sooner. I too had my open RNY in May of 2001. Up until 8/05 I was still loosing a few pounds here and there, never gained. At my max I weighed 378 got down to 225. I have gained 40lbs in the last year. It too scares me to death. Makes me wonder if there is a connection with all of us having had our surgeries in May of 2001. I crave sugar something fierce. Sweets, like candy and baked goods. Not so much carbs like pasta and bread. I am thinking about going to my regular physician to see if they can do some blood work, if there is anyway to check out the condition of my RNY. I keep thinking that there has got to be something wrong. If anyone has any ideas or has gotten some good advice I am all ears. Thanks, unfortunately I now know that I am not alone. Good luck to everyone.

I too am nearly 5 years out, had my surgery in May 2001, went from 330 to 164. Right now I am gaining weight about 17 lbs since March and its very scary. I just found out that the small intestine that connects to my pouch has opened to allow everything to just pass through, guess its better than a stricture which makes you throw up all the time. Anyway the reason I am hungary ALL THE Time is because it is passing so quickly my stomach is never full. To have a revision requires you to go through the whole approval process with the insurance company and you have to be 100 lbs overweight. Is that ridiculous or what, they want you to get fat again to have something fixed! Have already had TT and thigh lift and hearnia repairs. Even had a lower bowel blockage from adhesions one year out. I currenlty have my 4th hernia and they will approve that repair, trying to get my doctor to fix this problem at the same time. Will keep you posted. As far as sugar, I have been able to eat it since the beginning and always crave it. I think I will try the flaxseed oil because my friend at work takes it everyday and is losing weight (she's already thin). Thanks for listening! I'm so glad I found all of you people with the same problem.

Oh man, I feel for you! I too had surgery in May of 01. Have you tried doing the soft foods again? Maybe that will help. Once & awhile i'll eat something that wont agree with me, and i'll get some papaya & chew it. It's a chewable tablet. It helps calm the tummy down. Papaya enzyme. It's sold where vitamins are sold. I swear by this stuff! I hope you start to feel better. Throwing up sucks big time! And the UTI? Man, I remember those days. I used to get those all the time too. My doc finally got them under control. I had a yeast thing at the same time also. My primary said it was because of the weight loss. Hell, who knows anymore. I did the azo thing, because the prescriptions were getting pricey. They cleared up. I do hope you feel better before Sunday. Hopefully Santa brings you something that makes you feel better. Sorry I couldn't really help you. All I did was really ramble .... Ciao, Beckie

Well, it's my 4 year anniversary and I've gained 15 pounds in the last year. I want to use the arthritis in my knees as an excuse, but actually it's my mouth.....putting wrong things in it! I can eat more than I used to....from 1/2 piece of pizza to maybe 2 small pieces. And I know that I've been snacking in between meals. My boss just showed me her Body for Life for Women book and it's really inspired me. There is a women featured in the book that had gastric bypass and looks great. It's so true that the surgery is just a tool. We have to find a healthy lifestyle and that is so hard when you are driven by food! I've tried to hard to adopt my husband's philosophy that food is to fuel your body, not fulfill emotions, but that's very difficult. I'm very much a stress eater, especially at work, and I need to find a way to deal with that. I've been chewing LOTS of gum to keep my mouth busy! Even as we speak I'm so tempted to go to the new coffee cart that's been set up in the lobby....not for coffee, because I don't drink it, but for the muffins and cookies out there! Anyway, that's my rant for the moment.......I've enjoyed getting back on this site and reading everyone's comments.....Thank You! Dianne Cooper [email protected]

I am SO glad I found this message board. My anniversary is May of '01 too and I've gained from 175 to 192 and it is TOTALLY bothering me. I'm also experiencing hair loss. I was found to be severely anemic back in January but have since got my levels up to normal but my hair is still falling out. I am now pushing the protein. I'm back to some old habits as far as my diet and I know I shouldn't be eating the way I am. Is it really possible to change? I'm struggling. Hoping the nicer weather will get me out more and away from food! Hope everyone has a great day!!

Topic: Help with symptoms
Hi all, it has been a long , long time since I posted or was on this website. I had my surgery in May of 2001.. I have lost 112 lbs. I did have a problem last year with a blockage and Dr. Liem had to open me up and redo the band. I still do not regret having the surgery even though I got very sick last year with that blockage. I am having trouble again though. I am just getting over a Urinary Tract infection and yeast infection and have been vomiting quite a bit again. Not sure why but It it affecting me again.I am having this buzzing in my head, dizziness, difficulty sleeping and not keeping food down so good. I have an appt. with Dr. Liem on Monday ( next monday the 4th of April). I don't live in his area any more but I'm going there to see him...Is anyone having any of these problems. could this be related to the surgery somehow, or could it be something else. Any imput would be greatly appreciated.
