Topic: RE: Post Suregery Updates "How are you doing?"
Hey!  I'm glad to hear you turned the corner and are doing so well!  I had a different surgery so my reaction is a little different.  I lost a lot of weight the two weeks before (25lbs in 2.5 weeks, it was crazy) and then a lot the next 5 weeks.  Since then, I have slowed down.  Since I have a lapband, I am fully healed from the swelling at least and now have no more restriction over the last few weeks.  So I have to be careful and pay a lot of attention every meal.  I'm going to get my first fill in July.  I can't wait (but am a little nervous).

I hope that doesn't sound unhappy though, because I am not.  I have gone down 1 or 2 sizes... a 5X to a 3X depending on the item of clothing.  I have been wearing clothes I kept too, although mine only go down to a 2x.  After that I'll be either begging for family hand me downs or shopping (I know which sounds like more fun!).

I have accomplished quite a few goals too!  My sleep apnea is no longer a problem (though I haven't been tested).  I would wake up at least every hour sometimes more before and now I can sleep for 5 hours or more before I have to pee.  It's awesome!  Yay for sleep.  I no longer want to (or do) fall asleep during my work day.  Yes, the teacher trying not to sleep at her desk while the kids take a test or something.  Talk about embarrassing!  Glad that's over!

I also have been exercising more and can now walk up a single flight of stairs without having to actually stop to catch my breath for five minutes.  It was really horrible, but now it's not even really a deal.  I no longer want or need to avoid stairs and take them over the elevator unless I am carrying something heavy.

I actually fit into a wedding dress at David's Bridal.. not only was I worried I wouldn't fit into the biggest size they had (26W) but I was squeezed into a 20 and a 22 with the zippers actually closed.  I could probably get the 22 even, as the 24 I purchased will need to be taken in.  I didn't want to risk it though in case I didn't lose enough of the bottom of my pear to be comfortable and feel pretty on the wedding day.  I'm really excited as it's only 2 months away!

One of the reasons I wanted to have wls for help was because I want to be healthy enough to have a baby in a few years.  Well, so far, it's going well because I am now having my periods again.  I forgot how much they SUCK.  However, I feel like it means my body thinks I'm healthy enough (though I'm still waiting at least two years!) and it makes me happy to know I'm going to be fertile again.  I had essentially stopped having my period altogther.

Wow, this came out long... but I think it's a good idea to celebrate our successes.  Thanks for always being so fun and positive.

Hugs!  <3

Awesome!  I don't think I'm ready to do them yet, but I used to LOVE to do Tae Bo tapes.  I plan on using them again in about another 30 or so lbs down.

I might want to check out the Latin one.  Sounds fun!

Topic: RE: lost my enthusiasm for exercising
I'm finally getting enough energy to exercise again.  This week I went back to yoga, did some bike and stairmill and tried something that I absolutely LOVED that I've never done before.  Zumba.  I had so much fun doing it, if you like to dance or have a dance background...it's awesome!

I didn't feel like I was working out because it was so much fun...can't wait to do more.

I have moved on to my 3rd level of Exercise DVDs. First I used an Inside Walking Workout DVD, and then moved on to the Real Women Real Workout (for the large woman), now I am doing (only when I can't walk) Elyse's Latin Rhythm Workout. This workout has two levels and it is fun doing Latin dancing (think sexy moves). If you are up for a challenge she also lets you choose the workout in Spanish!

Topic: RE: this board is dead
I found the way to keep this forum going before was to ask about people and how it is going for them. When we were pre-surgery and close past post surgery we wanted to know a lot of things. Mostly we were cheering each other on.

Find recipes, easier ways of doing things, wow moments, questions in general and specific. Since we are all loosing and doing more things I think a lot of us have not been online. That was my problem regarding posting. I was so busy with life that I didn't go online. I was wrong not taking a bit of time to keep up. We can share new things we are doing, share exercise ideas and more.

For Instance I love my Latin Rythyms Workout with Elyse. It's fun doing latin dances but it is not nearly as difficult to keep up with as is Zumba. And you can do it in Spanish if you get bored with the English!!!

Topic: Body and Mind Not In Sync; How About Yours???
Okay so I have clothes from size 4X to size 12 so you can see I could not get rid of clothes I wore in 1997. But you would think I could get rid of clothes that were too big. Guess what? By the time I got the larger clothes out of my closet I had skipped over 2 sizes and then another size after. I wearing 4X then went to 2X and then to a Misses size large. I bought some misses XL and looked like a flying squirrel when I raised my arms with loose fabric. I took clothes back that I actually thought looked small. I think every 10 pounds is a size for me. I am 5 foot tall and at 128 I was completely round.

What is amazing is breast size is relative. When I was huge I had huge boobs. Even though they are a lot smaller they look big in comparison with my body.

I only measured two areas on my body; my waist and butt. I lost 8 inches in my butt and close to it in my waist. Don't trust your scale. Size matters.

I finally got all the big sizes out of my closet and drawers but I went through all the boxes and grabbed some of the clothes back. I can't believe how hard it was to part with the clothes. My underwear was sagging in the back to my knees. I was wearing size 13 when I actually fit into a 9.

When I was larger I wore clothes big. I think a lot of think we can hide under extra fabric.

One thought really encouraged me. I shop at thrift stores and it seemed like I could never find any nice plus size clothing (why is that?). I now realize when I donate my clothing someone will appreciate finding nice clothing and that made all of the difference. Crazy I could do it for someone else but not for me.....

Has anyone felt the same or is having a problem really knowing you are smaller?

Topic: RE: Eating Out??
I had the same problem. Where to eat???? I got some ideas from your question but I did find a solution that suited me. I have a large soup thermos. I am able to put ice on the bottom and insert a yogurt or protein drink and top it off with more ice.

My problem with eating out when I am alone is eating one or two tablespoons and then asking for a carryout box. I don't want to explain my WLS to servers. I have thought about ordering carry out from Applebee's. I can eat 1 or 2 wedges of Chicken Quesadillas. I put some restaurant phone numbers on my cell. I looked at restaurant menu's online and keep a list in my wallet of what I like.

I am not able to eat beef or even beef substitutes. I get as sick on a meatball as I do with a boca burger but I can eat chicken and can't get enough of it.

Topic: RE: lost my enthusiasm for exercising
I found that when I didn't want to excercise that if I made myself that within 3 days I was hooked again. It is hard to get started again when I stopped but halfway through my walk I am loving the energy I feel!

Gardening is great exercise. I know it makes me sweat and wears me out.

Topic: Post Suregery Updates "How are you doing?"
I haven't been going online but about once a week. Life is so busy. I am up from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm and I am on the move the whole time. I will try and do better. The forum was going good when questions were asked. It is good to relate to our own peers.

As far as how I am doing? Well I have come a long way. I was not able to get the RNY laproscopy after the incisions were made and ended up with an open RNY. The incision starts right in the middle of my breast and goes to my belly button. I guess that is about 9 inches (I am short). Around 8 weeks out I finally turned the corner and the improvement was amazing.

I am at 9 weeks 4 days and I have lost 40 pounds. I am down 4 sizes in most clothing. I lost 6 inches from my waist and 8 inches from my butt. I went from a 3X to a misses size large. No more plus sizes in my closet or dresser.

I have accomplished most of my goals whi*****luded putting on shoes and socks, lowering my glucose levels, getting up and down from the floor, riding my bike, becoming very active in general, exercising 5 days a week and looking better in clothes. There are more goals accomplished but I have to look at my profile to remember.

I gt my water in, vitamins, protein, exercise and other meds in everyday. It took some manuervering to figure out how to do it all.

I love my exercise ball, lifting hand weights and walking. I am walking an hour a day. I enjoy walking in the evening and am walking pretty fast up and down some inclines.

I never really cooked before because I existed on junk food. I always have a least a dozen frozen meals in my size. One large chicken breast is 6-8 meals for me. My doctor has me on a one tablespoon diet. I was getting sick on two tablespoons.

My life has been so much better since I overcame the complications. There is so much I can do now.

How about you? How has your health and your life improved? I lost my weight in a bunch of mini surges. I would stick with the same weight for a week and then loose 5 in the next 4 days.  How has your weight loss gone (stalls, steady, surges)?
