Topic: RE: Anyone else having RNY on the 22, or that week???
Ok, so i have been a total slacker when it came to posting.  I really meant for all of us April surgeries to unite, but life gets in the way sometimes...

I have been very lucky with no big complications.  At week 2, I tore some scar tissue, but recoved quickly.  Went back to work after 30 days (our disability department follow some strict guidelines).

I am happy with weight loss, but there are challenges also.  I am extremely happy everytime I do something that I could not do before, like walk the grocery store all by myself or not have to sit and rest every 2 minutes while walking...

One big challenge I have is getting bored with the food...anyone come up with any creative ideas?  I found I like to chew food, so sugar free jello, pudding andf yogurt are not my favs and I crave meat.  Probably becasue I am not gettign enough protein.

Also, my hair began to fall out, first a few strands here and there, now seems like fistfuls (I am exaggerating)

So, how is everyone else doing 2+ months out??

at about 4 months, i started eating beef jerky, but i couldn't find anything that wasn't too chewy and too much work! so, i started making my own, and now it is all i can eat!  it is www.cherrysbadassbeefjerky.com -- very thin and almost crisp, melt-in-your mouth jerky. i am working on the exact nutrition facts right now, but i do know that 1/4 pound bag (or 4ozs) is equal to 1 pound of raw beef. it is a very thin top round beef cut.

if you are interested, i have a web site and/or you can join the facebook page for new flavors, deals, etc. i hope to get a bigger facility to prepare it in soon, so that i can make even more and focus more on the WLS community!

Great job with your wt loss.  I no longer enjoy water and used to drink gallons each day. Now I have to force it. Crystal light helps.  Like you I went back to a  more liquid diet with shakes and soup and my wt loss really increased. I am coming up on 3 months also and the first 2 months were really slow.  Hopefully things will contine at this rate for a while.

I also have issues with chicken and other meat, fish food. Salmon, tilapia, steak, etc.  I made a pot roast and that was OK. Cooked slowly for a long time so the beef was really tender and I chewed and chewed and ate very slowly. My support group thought it was early days for that kind of food and it will get better.  Yes ground beef and beans are wonderful mix with a little taco mix or enchilada mix and canned tomatoes Yummy.       My Dr. has samples of vits etc so I was able to try before buying. I like Bariatric Advantage in different flavors.    I still drink the shakes  Costco chocolate is good, not too sweet.    Good luck on your journey

4 days and no posts, in that case I better respond, don't want you to think your input isn't missed. It's always good to hear how fellow April WLS people are doing.

From your post it looks like you are doing great, which gives me some incentive (peer pressure ;-) ).

Sorry you are having rift with your sister. Change can be hard, even good change.  I know in my case I’ve been feeling a bit more irritable.

Sometimes we expect people to know what we need or how we feel and when they don’t we become defensive and they react defensively. From what you wrote it sounds as if this may be the case as far as the soda is concern.  As you stated she may also be feeling threatened or another interpretation would be she may be feeling inadequate.

I hope the tension is resolved before your families go to the beach in August.

So I'm down about 50 lbs and my sister has been verbally supportive over the past three months.  She helped me shop for new clothes etc.  She has been a chronic dieter FOREVER, has done weigh****chers and gained and lost the same 40 lbs many times over the past 5 years.  She lost a bunch of weight last summer while going through a divorce and has always been thinner than me even at her heaviest.  Since last summer she put about 25 lbs back on and is again dieting (sort of).  Another piece of this story is that I have been a die hard diet coke addict for at least 20 years, obviously I had to give it up for the surgery and I miss it terribly.  My sister is just as addicted and as soon as she comes to my house she puts diet coke (that was in my garage left over from when I quit) into my fridge and proceeds to drink it in front of me which is TORTURE.  She knows how much I miss it but I guess I never point blank asked her not to do it in front of me at my house (I don't think I have a right to tell her she can't have it but I do think she could go away from me in my own house at least right now while it's so hard for me).  So I said (perhaps a bit *****ily) that after this was gone there would be no more.  She replied (*****ily) that she didn't live here and it went downhill from there.  She went on to tell me that I've become "mean and nasty" since my surgery.  I didn't really know what to say to that because I honestly don't think it's an accurate statement, sure I've had my moments (and she lives 2 hours away from me so it's not like we're together much) as has she.  I talked to my dh about it (he had RNY about 5 years ago) and he didn't think I'd become mean and nasty (he said maybe bossy, LOL but I'm always that way) and wondered if it was more her issue and maybe her feeling threatened that she may not be the thinner sister for long.  She also has made snide comments about my eating two bites of things (like I can help that!).  I tried to talk to her about it this a.m. before she left to go back home but she was so surly and defensive that nothing productive came out of it.  I told her she hurt my feelings and I got a sarcastic "I'm sorry" so I gave up.  I know we'll work it out eventually but I'm going to take a break from her for awhile I guess and surely stop talking about my weight loss journey.  We are set to go to the beach together (both families) in early August so I hope we work it out by then.  I guess I just wanted to vent and maybe see if anyone has any thoughts on the matter or how I should go from here.  Anyone else had family members give you flak?

Thanks for listening!!

Topic: RE: 3 months gone.....how are you doing??
It'll be three months for me on the 26th (my birthday), I'm down just over 50 lbs and people are starting to notice, someone told me I was shrinking last night (yay).  I have gone from 22/24 to 16 and it's nice to need new clothes.  I've had some "stuck" issues which are awful but I seem to be getting better at avoiding that.  It's an adventure for sure.

I lose WAY more weight when I do the shakes so that keeps me drinking them. The vites are non negotiable. I just got my 3 month labs back and I'm already low in some stuff. So that is motivating me to keep up with it even more.

Try different shakes. I can't drink them without a little sprinkle of sf pudding mix on top. Yumm.

Hey fellow Aprl RNYers... Im still having trouble with everything that goes in my mouth.  Still HATE the vitamins.. any suggestions?  Unlike most people... I cant tolerate chicken of any kind.  I actually do better with ground beef and beans - crazy huh?  Just looking for some more ideas...I havent done the shakes in at least a month I was just so sick of them and the yogurt.  However, since then I have been really low on my protein intake.
