Topic: RE: Still hungry
I had RNY. I am making sure I do not drink 1/2 hour before or after eating. And its a growling feeling that I am getting..(my be relating it to how I felt when I was hungry before the surgery). I only have the 1/4 c applesauce in the morning with cottage cheese. My other two meals are cream soup and yogart. Only the things listed on my discharge until I see my doctor. Ofcourse the clear liquids are still ok, but not filling. I have not had any vomiting issues. BM is very runny so I added in fiber. Also thinking the fiber might help the hunger feeling too. I constantly sip water except before and after meals. That's about it.

what surgery did you have? I would check your carb intake. Applesauce has carbs and check your protein shakes to make sure they are not too high.
If you have rny, remember that you don't have a valve on your pouch so the liquids are basically running through and you are not going to feel full. Its my understanding that rny's nerves in the stomach have been cut and you shouldn't expect to feel 'full'. That of course is if you are rny.

clear liquids means broth, I like the chicken and rice kind and just take out the food bits, I think it takes better than the canned broth, jello.
My doc says pudding and drinkable yogurt and cream soups is okay, its weird that your doc says ensure which is a milk based drink and that you can't have the yogurt and cream soups??
I would ask about that. I'm with you though, I have the two weeks liquids, than pureed. It will all be worth it in the long run, though.

If you didn't give up sodas or coffee, its called the "atkin's flu". Its from carb withdrawal. It lasts anywhere from 2-14 days. Mine lasted about six days and it was miserable. I knew you weren't suppose to have aspirin so I was afraid to take any otc meds. Just keep focused on your goal, YOU CAN DO IT!
Topic: RE: Pre-Op Liquid Diet...omg I'm STARVING
I did clear liquids for five days pre op. I guess bc I was so afraid my liver wouldn't be hard and reduced, I really stuck to it. When my mom told me the surgeon came out and he said he could tell I really did well on my pre op diet, I glowed. I knew it was all worth it. I really believe that is one reason my complicated surgery went so well. I didn't lose any blood, removed my stomach to a sleeve, rerouted my intestines, removed my gallbladder and appendix.
It definitely is different pre op to post op. Post op, you can't even have water for 24-48 hours, so you are dying to just drink something, when you finally do, you get sick feeling. You have to sip soooo slowly. You can almost feel it go into your new 'stomach'.
Its true you don't get as hungry, per se, post op. I've done liquids for seven days post op now and its definitely not as hard. But I'm finding myself dreaming of food, but I know it would be different to eat it now than before.
on the pre op liquid, I ate jello, crystal light etc. post op I can have broth, juice, pudding, jello. I have one more week of this and then pureed, which I'm looking forward too.
You all will do great. Just stick to the surgeon's orders and it will be worth it!

Hello!
Surgery buddy! I am on the same diet as you until week 3 then it is puree foods. It has been so hard to get everything in. I will try my best today but all I want to do is sleep.....
Dr. Myers said to add dry milk powder to your cream soup for a little more protein.
Are you also supposed to take your vitimins? I am supposed to fit these in as well.. but not idea how?
