I had surgery on Wednesday and the pain in my chest and neck have been horrible. They said it is normal and that it is pressure from the gas. As of today it isn't too bad, but I still have a hard time inflating my lungs all the way without discomfort. It will get better!
Congratulations on your surgery!

atkins shakes are ok but a little higher in calories and less protein. my personal favorite shake these days is the costco brand protein powder that comes in a big bag. mixes with water. best shaken, not blended. i add a bit of unsweetened coco powder to it to cut the taste of artifical sweeteners and to make it more chocolaty. really tastes quite good and for a while, i bi--ed and bit--ed about my protein drinks. just had to find the right ones. other stuff sounds fine. have a variety since you will find some stuff you hate. our support group is going to bring all the stuff we hate and trade it around since everyone is different about what they like. but get some protein that is specifically designed for barriatric surgery patients and not just general dieting. D
Topic: RE: 8 days until surgery! I'm slightly freaking out!
my surgery is on tuesday April 20th and I hear ya!! the emotions are going crazy for me! Mostly excited!!! :) and a little nervous and a tiny bit scared. Up until yesterday I was just soo excited, but thinking about the changes coming have me a little scared... nervous about the recovery... I have a 14 month old daughter that I can't lift for at least 4 weeks.. not looking forward to that at all! But you know what!! we are going to healthy again! :) and I gotta say, the first week of the very low calorie preop diet was sooo hard! But I actually have had more energy... I feel great!!! I have been able to actually run after my daughter!! and we ran up a little hill at the park on Friday! :) My husband noticed it too! and its just going to get better! :)

Does it feel like time dragged to get here but then flew by too at the same time??? I am having the Sleeve Gastricomy. I have been in Kaisers Weight Loss Surgery program since June 2008 and almost a year later I am finally having my surgery! :) Sooooo excited! Just nervous about the recovery. I am big wuss when it comes to pain. And I have a 14 month old daughter to worry about. Thankfully I have a wonderful Mom in law to help out! :) I can't believe its almost here! It feels like a dream... but its not!! :)
Topic: RE: Positive things about pre op liquid diet
Thanks for sharing your brighter side :] That's too funny - but I do agree with all of them.
I'm on day #6 of my pre-op liquid diet & experienced your "#5 positive thing" this morning. As soon as I start to complain - my reasoning is "I haven't been eating, give me a break." It's always nice to have an excuse!

Topic: 8 days until surgery! I'm slightly freaking out!
This is my very first post on a O.H board - I will be working on my profile to upload some pictures and use this website as a tool to my success. I absolutely LOVE reading other people's posts and reading the advice people have to offer. Hopefully I can be of help someday throughout this new journey in my life!
My surgery is scheduled for April 26th - that's next Monday!! I can NOT believe how fast time has been flying by. Last Monday I started my LSD (Liver Shrinking Diet) which consists of 3 protein shakes a day, calcium pills, multi-vitamin, one Lean Cuisine for dinner, and lots and lots of water! So far, I haven't done too bad. Sometimes I find myself getting hungry so I snack on sugar free jello.
Here it is - 8 days post-op and it's just now hitting me ... hard. I'm getting anxious, worried (a little) extremely excited, etc. Is this normal? What were everyones thoughts a week before surgery!?
