Frustrated with my doctors
Ok, I am pretty much 6 months out from my RNY. When I went to see my "surgeon" (I say that in quotes because I haven't actually seen my surgeon since my hospital stay, but his staff knows me...sigh) I was told I am doing great... 98 pounds down and following the program as I should...
They gave me a form to get my bloodwork done. I went the Saturday following and had it done. Just about 2 weeks ago. I have heard nothing from them since. My PCP was copied on the results so I called them to have a copy sent to me... I was told "I'm busy... leave me a voice mail" and was dropped into the voice mail system to leave a message. That was on Tuesday. I gave them a day and called yesterday.. I was told "I'm busy" and they dropped me into the voice mail system AGAIN. So I figured I would call my surgeon. I called and got the results.. they advised me as to what to tweek. I asked for a copy of my levels to be faxed to me... they said "Sure!" like always... I never got it. Called them back... they said "Sure"... never got it.
I understand that doctor's are busy. I understand that I am not the only person they have to focus on. I don't call with the little things. I call when I have genuine concerns or can't find the answer to my questions any other way. I don't have them on speed dial and if it wasn't for the need to fill out insurance forms, I wouldn't know their first names. All I am asking for is a little respect. Being told "I'm busy" just isn't acceptable to me. The doctor's are busy. I get it. But they employ entire staffs of people. Is there only 1 person in the entire practice that knows how to use a fax machine? I believe that the expectation of privacy umbrellas the entire staff in a doctor's office. They all have access to my records. There isn't a single person there who's playing solitare on their state of the art computer that can pause the game long enough to fax me a document? Don't know how to use a fax machine? Fine. How about a copier? I will happily come and pick up the results. I don't normally enjoy being the squeaky wheel so I tend to bite my tongue. But this is just ******g me off.
Anyway, sorry to vent. Just needed to get that out of my system.

I know. I don't want to start all over with another dr. Especially since I am doing fine so far. Just frustrated with their lack of concern I guess.
Last week my PCPs nursr FINALLY got back to me 3 days after I called her... just so she could tell me they didn't have them in my file and that even if they did, she wouldn't give them to me because my PCP isn't the one that ordered them and to call my surgeon.. I can understand why they couldn't give it to me. But it still ****** me off that it took 3 days just to get an answer like that. By that time I had already talked to my surgeon's staff a couple of times and they were not coming thru with my results. I called them again on friday and said "I leave work at 3 today and would you please send them to me before then, because otherwise I have no access to a fax machine. I heard the usual... "Oh sure! I'll leave a note for the nurse." Needless to say, no fax occurred on Friday. Or over the weekend. Or Monday while I was here. After I left for the day on Monday, the fax came in. I had informed the woman by the fax machine that I was expecting a fax (granted, 3 days earlier...sigh) and she brought it over to me today when she saw it.
I am happy I finally got my results. But still aggitated and pissed that it took a week to get any answers and the fax a 2 page report to me. Welcome to the information age, huh? Next time I'm opting for the snail mail option! It's probably faster!
