Trouble.....trouble...trouble....
Hey my co-RNYers for April.. Im having so so much trouble trying to get in my protein and liquids for the day!!!! Not liking cottage cheese, shakes are making me sick, except for the the no sugar added Carnation instant breakfast....dont even know if that shake is ok to be drinking, but it tastes better than others for me. tired of yogurt all the time. One thing Ive been eating is Wendys chili almost every day, that I tolerate well, chicken.. not so much, tuna... not so much either, Whats a girl to do???? Help! I will be eight weeks post op tomorrow.
Well, I'm not an rnyer, so hope you don't mind me responding. It took me 8 weeks to find a protein. I just got the body fortess at walmart and the SECRET is to sprinkle sf jello pudding on top of the powder in the blender, add ice and blend. I put it in a metal coffee mug and it thickens up. It has about 2 carbs depending on how big your sprinkle is BUT SO WORTH it. I didn't drink a single shake until then. They all made me gag and I tried a lot.
I hear ya! My tastes buds went pretty haywire for a couple of weeks. They seem to be coming back to normal a bit. Any of the powder proteins turn my stomach. Just the smell of them as they get close to my nose is enough to make me sick. I have found the pre-mixed ones seem to work alittle better for me. I have started drinking 1 Cookies & Cream Oh Yeah! drink a day...it has 32g protein. Cottage cheese with a slice of pineapple makes it much more appetizing. Last night my husband was craving Panda Express, I was able to have some Beef & Broccoli and that was pretty good too.
I know it's hard. Some days so much harder than I thought it would be. We have to remember we're not that far out and all we can do is try our best.

I clip an interval timer to my shirt and have it on vibrate every 3 minutes. The problem is when my cell phone vibrates I take a drink of water (lol).
I started out on progresso soups. Not much protein but it got me used to food. I had to supplement with some frozen concoctions I made.
For protein I mix fruit, coffee flavorings, International Coffee (sugar free, fat free), cocoa powder with Splenda, fat free, sugar free pudding mixes, yogurt, oatmeal, and even sugar free jello mix. The list grows all the time. Be sure to heat your jello like the box says. When you add your protein it will get firm and it will also take away the grittiness that is always there. If you make chicken stock, beef stock or vegetable stock (I put in lots of herbs, bay leaves, olive oil, garlic and more). If you add extra firm tofu to it it tastes great. Tofu takes on the flavor around it so I make the broth and put the tofu in the fridge overnight. Now I never thought I would eat tofu but I really like it. I also add protein to my protein shakes and get 63 grams of protein in one shake.
I can't eat beef of any kind but chicken and tuna are fine. I also make a two egg omelet with a small amount of cheese and then pour Chi Chi's Salsa over the top of it. Chili is also good. I bought one a food saver, purchased a large turkey breast and had a ton of turkey ready to go.
I make 8 ounces of what I call frozen treats and divide the 8 ounces into 6 small containers. I double the protein powder, add any of the above and it is tasty to me. Almost every meal I make I cook extra and freeze them. I have about 40 4 ounce containers. I started stocking up on supplies even before I was approved.
