Feeling very lost and overwhelmed

Well, I feel like I am in between a rock and a hard place.  I have been putting up with this stupid nausea for over a week now.  It hasn't been constant, but when it's not nausea, I just feel "blah".

I am not getting anywhere near enough food and liquids in me - so that would explain my "blah" feeling.  I've talked to the nurse today and went over my weekend with her.  She gave me a few pointers as to why I am feeling this way; eating too fast, not pureeing things.......

So my lost and overwhelmed feeling?  I don't know WHAT the hell to eat.....or how much....or how many times a day.........*sigh*

Now I did get a booklet from my surgeon.  And it lists the diff stages and what types of food to eat.  BUT that's it.  I need something structured I can follow right now - like a full meal plan - WHAT to eat for b'fast and how much etc......

Today for the first time the thought crossed my mind "I wish I hadn't done this".....

Hang in there. This too will pass. I have been struggling with nausea and chest pain too. Makes me dread eating...what a change! When I felt really yucky this weekend, I went back to creamed soup and broth. Seemed like the warmth was comforting. I hope that you find your "special food" that will comfort you and help you feel better.

TRY THIS:

AM: hot tea first thing! this flushes out the phlegm in your pouch (per my doc) and helps keep u from getting nauseated

1 1/2-2 oz scrambled eggs- make sure they are not dry-- if they are dry  u will get sick
wait an hour-then have a drink

mid-Am: protein shake
wait an hour before drinking

lunch: 1 piece of thin sliced deli turkey rolled up with a little cream cheese in the middle (this fills me up, eat a little more or less if you need to!)
wait an hour before drinking

mid-afternoon: protein shake
wait an hour before drinking

Dinner: 1 1/2-2 oz of baked chicken and if you have room, 1 1/2 oz steamed broccoli- nice and soft
wait an hour before drinking

Try that menu. It works for me, I mix it up. On days that I feel a little blah, my old standby is sugar free natural applesauce with cinnamon and string cheese. just had my protein levels checked (blood test) and I am perfect my doc says! And I thought I wasn't getting enough. I am starting stage 4 and off the shakes (finally!) and adding in more food (which I cannot fit yet). Also, I had a lot of trouble with vomiting so I found what works for me... Hopefully you will find some relief. Stay positive!!

Thank you, Thank you.  I have been having tea first thing ....instead of the coffee that I used to adore first thing in the morning.  lol.

I've been able to do sunny-side-up eggs with no trouble.

An HOUR to drink?  Why so long?  My plan is the 30/30 rule.

Right now the thought of a protein shake makes me want to hurl.  What am I going to do to get past that????????  That's what started off all my nausea!  I was loving that Chike protein ...then it started to not taste good to me.  So I tried those ready made ones from Costco...OMG - made me sick as a dog.  And I haven't touched one since last week.  Well, I am going to try some soy milk next time I do a shake.

Susie,

I don't have any appetite and if I didn't try to keep some kind of schedule I would never remember to eat or drink. I had an early dinner of 2 tbsp of food and decided to have another at 9 pm. I am sure I am not getting over 500 calories probably more like 350.

We are caught in a nausea circle. If we don't drink enough water then we are nauseated, then since we are already nauseated we can't eat. They sent me for IV fluids because of this on my check up. But I got diarrhea while they were giving me the IV fluids and didn't get hydrated at all.

I try to eat my meals according to my pouch size. I can eat just under 2 tablespoons. More than that and I get stuck and all the awful feelings that come with it. I have to eat four meals (8 tbsp of food total) and 2 high protein snacks (ISOPure 25 protein gram shots split for two snacks). I always feel sick after eating but it varies from mild to moderate.

I had the lap incisions and then the open incision, on day 9 I started leaking blood and fluids of day 12 I had a huge hematoma and seroma erupt. Since that day I have burning pain.  It's been 5 weeks and I am ready to begin this new life and stop being in pain, nauseated, fatigued. I am trying to do my part to give my body what it needs even if I end up on the bathroom floor praying for mercy to stop the dumping, foamies or stuck feeling (and I don't eat fat or sugar).

I really wished I would not have had an open. It seems like most people at two weeks were doing better that I have yet to achieve at 5 weeks.

I see my doctor tomorrow and plan on asking some questions.

All the dietsare so different and our bodies. I had severe diarrhea and thought I had become lactose intolerant but it was just the isopure protein shake mix. Which my GP has me still using  because it actually now prevents me from being constipated!

I used to love plain water, now it tastes funny to me but it calms my stomach when the sugar free mix drinks taste too sweet. Everything tastes too sweet now.  I do use gas strips when I drink because I think it causes you to ingest air. I have yet to find a happy amount to drink. It's worse for me when I sip. I also am not supposed to drink 15 minutes before eating or after.

have to eat yogurt first thing in the morning with my vitamin/b-12 or I feel ill.

I drink Isopure Banana shake.

I have egg drop soup, hot and sour flavored. I mix in 2 eggs and tofu. I have a cup and save the rest.

Another Banana shake.

Yogurt again to take the night vitamins/b-12.

I still eat ice chips! Watermelon is my fave right now. I eat a few tsp fulls at least once a day. Chew it enough and it disappears. It's mostly water and helps with dry mouth. My meds give me really bad dry mouth.

Since stopping the pain meds for my incision packing, I am not being so dedicated.

A huge thing to help with constipation is walking! It makes things move through your bowls.

Hang in there Diana with the incision drama. I haven't even gotten on the scale in 2 weeks because I stopped losing. I was told to keep my activity to very little so as to heal better, which was bad advice...

i am also bothered with nausea, and when nausea is there, nothing feels good, and i cant eat anything. what has really helped me though is the nausea patch that you put behind your ear. one patch is good for 3 days, and then u just remove the old  and put a new one on! i have been using the patches since my surgery on 4/28. i do sometimes leave a day in between patches to see if the nausea has gone or not.

Sorry your having a rough time.  Once you start eating and drinking more I am sure you will feel better.

Here is what I do:

8 am : 8 oz of hot green tea with splenda
9 am: protein shake mixed with 4 oz soy milk & 4 oz water
10 am: 8 oz iced tea
12 pm: 1/4 cup of mushy food, I make sure i measure or can def over eat. I have tried:
re-fried beans with salsa, sour cream and cheese
taco bells pintos and cheese
ricotta with mozzarella and sauce (baked)
scrambled egg with cottage cheese
creamy soup with low fat shreaded cheese
lf corned beef hash
tuna fish with lf mayo
lf string cheese

deli sliced turkey
1 pm: 8 oz iced tea
2 pm: 8 oz iced tea
3pm: 8 oz iced tea
5 pm: 1/4 cup mushy food (from above list)
5-7 pm : nap! lol
7 pm:  8 oz pre mixed protein shake or iced tea

I guess technicalyl I should be drinking more, but i just make sure i have a cup with me at all times and get down at least 8 oz an hour...sometimes I can do more.  I had to try MANY  protein shakes before I found 1 I can tolerate, I bought a ton of samples, most I make and just throw out CANT STAND THE taste or smell.  The only 1 i like so far is chike chocolate mixed with water and soy milk, add 1 tbs peanut butter delish!

Great schedule!!!  I shall try to fashion something for myself with that info!

Chike!  Omg. I thought I found something really good.  I was drinking it right after surgery.  Now I can't stand it.   My PB2 is coming next week - so maybe that will help - I have banana, chocolate, and strawberry Chike.  And maybe I should try mixing with water...I've only tried milk.

I am LOVING the taco bell beans and cheese and Wendy's chili.  3 oz. at a time.
