Are they testing me?

So I get a call today from my surgeon's coordinator, Leiann. She tells me "The hospital called and said that UHC/COBRA isn't active" and that as of right now i'd have to pay a "hefty" deposit and sign a non-covered service form (policy).

I call UHC - they say the same thing, COBRA isn't active. ACK! My surgery is tomorrow! We conference call COBRA. It IS active (I mean they HAVE taken the money from my bank account even!) and that she can put in for a manual transfer of data to UHC. It could take 24-48hrs, though. I asked if there was a way to speed that up and she said no, that was the fastest. Okay. She hangs up. I'm still on phone to UHC. She documented everything, including the case number COBRA gave me. Also told me that it normally takes 30 days for COBRA to get things coordinated =P So, I am somewhat okay with the 24-48hrs.

I called Leiann back at surgeon's office and let her know what happened. She notated it on my account too, with the case number. Said she'd contact the hospital and let them know what was going on. It is "possible" I won't have to pay the deposit, but still sign the form.

/sigh

I was actually trying to not really think about it today - just go on as I have been. This throws a loop in that plan =)

Wow, so sorry you have all this happen the day before surgery.  You should be unstressed going into surgery.  I hope this can clear itself up before you enter the hospital so its not on your mind.  It seems so unfair to be so close and have this happening.  Special prayers for you that everything works out.

Thank you!

I agree totally. Could they have not called me last week? Then the 24-48hr thing wouldn't bug me as much.

That's awful. Another April couldn't get her credit card to work over the weekend, hers got delayed two days. I hope yours happens still. Does he have a busy schedule?

Oh crap, talk about waiting until the last minute.  I'll keep my fingers crossed and pray that it all comes out just fine.  Maybe they'll even ru**** now that they know all the facts.

Keep us posted !!

Thanks everyone!!!

I have to call the hospital in about 15minutes or so to find out my time. I will find out from them how much the "hefty deposit" will cost (just in case.....)
